I have a 6.5” pre warning 44 Blackhawk barrel. I plan on cutting it down for a 44 special 3 screw no.5 style project using a Wells No.5 brass grip-frame. If I cut directly behind the front sight base I get 5 1/8 inches. So I am thinking, either 5 inches after cleanup and crown or 4 5/8 inches. However I don’t recall ever seeing a 5 inch barrel on a Blackhawk before. It will have a Bowen DX style interchangeable blade front sight and Rough Country rear sight barrel. And base gun. Has anyone seen a 5 inch barrel on a single action before? Any pictures of single actions with a 5 inch barrel? Or a No.5 style gun with a 4 5/8 inch barrel. Thanks, Jonathan.

5” looks good on a Blackhawk, especially with a long ERH cut to the end of the barrel. It’ll look like a 4 5/8 to the eye.

I had a Bisley 44 cut to 5 1/4 years ago and really liked it. I chose that length because it was short and the billboard still liked fine.
Because of that, when I had my 500 built 20 years ago I was going to have it made 5 1/4. (or 5) I changed my mind and regret it still.

Beautiful wheelgun. Mike454. I will have to consider the longer ejector rod housing. Did they ever make a long ejector rod housing in steel. Or would that have to be an aluminum piece?
Thanks,
Jonathan.

Lee, that 5 inch looks good with the standard ERH.
I’m going to have to delve into photoshop and do some playing around now.
Thanks.
Jonathan.

Ok, I did some work. Here is what I came up with. First. 5 Inch with Ejector rod housing going to end of barrel. Also photoshopped Bowen Rc rear and Dx front in. Second. Is 5 inch with standard length Ejector rod housing. I like both options, Hmm decisions decisions. What do you guys think Thanks, Jonathan.

Thanks, Jonathan. They made the extender ejector rod housing in steel. Mine might be a custom part, but I've bought them from Ruger before.
