May 2020 Precision Revolver Challenge
Opening on May 1, running until May 31st, I am challenging you to a precision shooting contest. After being cooped up, we should be looking forward to an excuse to visit the range.
Any entry for this contest must be fired and submitted this month! May 2020!
This is a revolver only competition. Each target must consist of at least 5 shots fired from at least 5 chambers.
Targets placed at 25- or 50-yards. This is the warm-up month. Next month, it's 50 and 100.
The target is up to the shooter, but may not be metal. We're punching holes here.
Targets will be scored as measured groups, outside to outside grease-mark/bullet hole, minus bullet diameter to produce a center-to-center measurement. Groups should be measured with calipers, not a tape measure.
Gun may be fired from any position, but is supported by shooter and recoil is controlled by shooter, not a Ransom rest! The intent is a bench-rested revolver, or any position that you feel maximizes your own precision.
Since this is a warm-up month, there will only be two divisions: IRON Sights and OPEN. Red dots compete in open.
Participants may only enter One target per gun.
Participants may enter as many guns as they would like.
Detailed specs on gun must be included with entry.
A picture should be submitted with gun and group. There is an entire thread on posting pictures if you need help.
Now, I would like to handicap the 25 yard competition by saying their group is multiplied by 2.1 to achieve a 50 yard score, but I am leaving that open to discussion.
This is a trial to gauge participation, so it's about as simple as can be. I encourage discussion on how we can improve this for next month. If there is sufficient participation, we will look at division based on caliber and gun. I also want to move this to at least 100 yards as the standard.
Even if someone comes in and shoots a 1” group the first weekend, I encourage EVERYONE to participate. If you do this all summer, you WILL be a better shooter this fall!
If there's any participation, I'm already thinking of ways to throw a prize in the pot later....
