I just found one of theses on Bud's. I bought it. I was 50/50 on if it was going to show up and be be the correct gun. It was. I baffled, but now have one, new in the box.

Ruger has made a run of these. At least 10 sellers on Gunbroker with 10+ in stock.

I love the SP101, especially the 3" model.
Has anyone figured out what's going on with the sheep-nose treatment on the cylinder? "Taper-crimped," as Mr. Bradshaw put it.

Was just looking at the GP100 on Bud's. Same taper crimp to the cylinder on those too. Somebody's got a bad taste thing going on in the design department.

Goofy looking way to shave an ounce? An ounce of rotational mass would probably help the double action trigger pull. Maybe a little easier to holster? Not pretty regardless. But I did buy one as a kit/trail plinker.

Any suggestions for an "all wood" grip?

I don't even like the black powder chamfer.

It's a fine idea all the way 'round. I do like my 3" 357s, but I won't buy one until/unless they correct the problem with the cylinder. I can see no valid reason for it and if I'm going to pay the kind of money Ruger's asking these days, I at lest don't want it to look like someone fell asleep at the grinder on it.

Mentioned earlier but here is an update with visuals. Yup, at first it sounds trivial. Then you look closer and side by side. These two were very similar vintage but the bottom one was sent in for some reason I don't really remember. Probably sticky extraction. Anyway, the cylinder was replaced with the new profile. Egg shaped flutes and LOTS of air space plus not a straight gap space left in the cylinder window. All in all, looks pretty amateurish. And like Bradshaw points out, way more likely to reflect blast where you don't want it. Yeah, HAPPY they fixed the problem but not so much with how they did it. But in defense of the new blue 3" 357 Those sights should make all the difference in the world. As they already have the frame in stainless for the 4" how far away can a stainless 4" be?
