My first .44 Special dates back to my youth when I customized a Colt New Service .45 Colt-ex-.455 Eley to .44 Special. that gun got away from me in 1971 through theft of my gunsmith's shop. Then, about 1975 or so I bought a then-new Charter .44 Special Bulldog. Completely out of my range of interest, I swapped that gun off. Then I was .44 Special poor for a long time. In the spring of 2005 I answered an add in the newspaper (Back when there were interesting things in the paper's classified section.) The man had two Ruger Blackhawk Three Screw .357 Magnums for sale. Both had been converted to the transfer bar modification. He was asking $200 for each. Since I had taken $500 with me, I bought both.I restored both of them to Three Screw configuration, the sent the 4 5/8" gun to Dave Clements and had it rebuilt to .44 Special. Later I acquired a couple more to round out my .44 Special battery: Two Colts, a Ruger, and a Uberti, all in .44 Special. Since then I've also added a Flat Top Ruger in .44 Special. Bob Wright

Bob:
Great story resulting in a superb set of four .44 Specials!
You have excellent taste in single actions and it is especially interesting to know that you carry a single action daily.
I really enjoy all of your messages.
