That,s what i expect to buy next. Plow handle and probably not a Super. I want accurate powerful light, and blue. Sacrilege to say this but the caliber does not matter much, i want at least a .357, But a 44 spec, and maybe a 41 mag or a .45 LC would work too. I would prefer a flat top, but not to important. There is a decent .41 on Gunbroker with a nice looking set of Elk Stag grips, A few 44 specials, Lots of .357s. Think i will go gun shopping today. I am amazed that gun shops are immune from the social distancing thing. ( I live in Portland Ore). There is a dealer here who may well have a Flat top 44 Special. Safety says call 1st, don,t just drive out there, A dry run exposing myself to other peoples germs might be a poor idea. I am almost 61 and Have Asthma, My heart says i am to damn stubborn to die from a virus, my brain says they are shoveling dirt on guys all over that are as stubborn and tougher than me ! But i been working all through it, And i take lots of stuff that has kept me in good health , not even a cold in a couple years. I am so sick of this thing. Tomorrow I am going up to my mountain. Me and a few guns, pop cans need killing. ...tj

...what bushog said.... I'm just a few years older and in good shape...but since I have everything I need gun wise I'm leaving the gun shops to those in need...
I hear ya when it comes to a 4 5/8"...had a dozen at least over the years but found myself with none for a couple of years... Found a nice 70s vintage .41 Magnum on GB and bought it a few months ago...what a great shooter. When it came in it was in 99% condition...wasn't even sure if anyone had ever fired it...
One I just remembered that I have in the box is a 1971 OM Super Blackhawk that someone added a 4 5/8" barrel to. Came with the original box and 7.5" barrel... The replacement looks like it was done at the factory but I doubt it was...need to get that one back out soon...
Good luck in your quest...but be safe...
Bob

2 of my BH's are 4 5/8" (357 and a Super both in SS) and I really like them for how easy they are to carry and believe it or not, their accuracy. Red dots on both on Raptor mounts.
One went to Huntington for the grip mod and beautiful walnut and the other had a home shop Huntingtonesque grip mod and nicely fitted Holly.

The one I favor is a FT 44 special. I picked up a .357 NV with the intent to convert to 44 spl with a 4 5/8"s bbl but came upon a 4" bbl that I am really tempted to at least try. The NV will be built around a dedicated load, a Saeco 265 GC at 1000 fps. The BH will of course be more versatile but I want the NV as a trail/packing revolver and thus the slightly shorter barrel is appealing.
To answer your question, I'd be on the hunt for a .44 spl or .45 colt FT. A small, lite, powerful package in either chambering.

I've got a 475 Linebaugh with a 4.6" barrel on it and surprisingly, the velocity isn't all that bad with the short barrel. 35gr 300-MP 325gr Speer Deep Curl 1502fps 29gr 300-MP 400gr Speer Deep Curl 1252fps

My everyday farm gun is a 4 5/8" Ruger 45 Flattop. Carries well and doesn't get in the way around machinery. Carry it in a Simply Rugged copy of the Lawrence 120. If I had known about Barranti's Longhorn Companion at the time I would have chosen that. Not quite as svelte as a Colt SAA but I've shot the snot out of it and don't feel bad about crawling under a truck with it on my hip.

That front blade probably gets pretty close to the forehead.

The 44 special Flattops get all the press - I get it, custom smiths have been converting 357s for decades and then Ruger delivers. Don't overlook the 45 flattop convertible. It gets overshadowed by the full sized 45 SS Bisley. Internal dimensions and general fit/finish are typically fantastic.

I am a big fan of 4-5/8" barrel Rugers. All of mine are New Models: a pair of stainless Single Six convertibles, a .41 Mag., a stainless .44 Mag., and stainless flat tops via Lipsey's in .357/9mm., .44Spec., and .45 Colt /ACP. I like all of them, but I will second ericp's comments, and recommend the .45 Convertible. Mid Frame, nicely finished, accurate, versatile ... what's not to like? Gunbroker might be your friend in your search.

Go up on that mountain, raise your hands in victory if you are a believer. If not, become one, then shoot away!

Love the last line of the original post of the OP. " Tomorrow I am going up to my mountain. Me and a few guns, pop cans need killing. " Hasvea terrible itch to go to camp and do camp things. Most of those things I can do here, but camp..is camp.
