I'm not much into the .22 rimfire so much now as when I was squirrel hunting. Then I had a Colt Frontier Scout when they were first announced, and later a fine Ruger Super Single Six convertible. But then I got away from them. But recently saw this Ruger Bearcat in the used gun case. Its the steel framed version, and has had the transfer bar added. But it just caught my eye and I bought it before I knew it. And now it fascinates me ~ its petite size and nicely fitted. It's no target gun by any means, and precision shooting is not in its bailiwick, but it still fascinates me. And, its dwarfted by the Single Six: I don't know what good it is except for shooting. My first handgun was an original 4 click light weight with gold anodized tg. I was 13 yrs old bought it at Sears in Texarkana. My mom had to buy it for me. I'm not sure why. It was pre 1968. It cost $39.99 prolly + tax. Lawn mowing money. Load 1 skip 1 load 4 cock it and let it down on the empty. I was some proud..............

I picked up an old model this summer thinking that would be perfect for my boys. After soothing a couple hundred rounds through it, I’m going to have to pickup a second and maybe a third one for my boys. Because this one is mine. Lol. I have absolutely fallen in love with it.

They're great little guns on the trapline Bob.. I have an adjustable sight blue one with elk horns on, and that's my little rig for dispatch. Weighs so little, you don't even know it's there!

I'll second that. I bought one from a shop in Fairbanks Alaska in the mid 60s. I was a GI staitioned out of Ft Wainright running a trap line with two other GIs. It was the Perfect trapline gun. Took a bunch of Snowshoe Hares with it & animals in traps. Great little guns. Wish I still had that one! Congratulations, you'll love it!

Bob Wright buys a 22, I can hardly believe what I'm seeing. They are fun though and for a few dollars worth of ammo one can keep themselves entertained for hours.
"precision shooting is not in its bailiwick" all my short barrel single action 22s shoot precisely, precisely all over the place at 25 yards, however I'm old and unsteady. But I've heard tell those 9.5 inch barrel guns are tack drivers.

I couldn't believe how small they were the first time I handled one at a gun shop. It looked neat but I didn't buy it. It looked like a toy.

I have a newer stainless one. I put a #5 type base pin in it, a stainless ejector rod housing, and moose antler grips. I need to shoot it more.

.22s are not just inexpensive to shoot, but you can kind of shoot them anywhere with Colibris. We have a 15 yard indoor range that we shoot at and up until these Wranglers we shot an old H&R top break against an even older Iver Johnson Supershot. We also shoot rifles with either Super Colibris or regular Colbris in a clean barrel. Up until about a year ago we used to get to shoot 410s and 22s and some black powder outdoors until they built 500 apartments that back up to us.

The little Bearcats have given us a lot of entertainment and have become a little addictive. Both my boys ( 10 and 13 ) and I seem to be fascinated with them, we have new and old, stainless , steel, and alloy, some left as is and some taken apart for projects. Would not be hard to round up a dozen between us these days and never miss an opportunity to bring another home.

They are a great gun, mine was the perfect companion when running trapline. Maybe no target revolver but a real handy workhorse for trappers looking to minimize pelt damage in a dependable package you hardly know is there. That brings back memories, nice snag, an d a great companion it has in that 3 screw Single!
But like you, for squirrel my go to's are a 22 LR SS Bisley I picked up to replace an older super single a few years back, I just love the Bisley's for my big paw.

Hey Bob , you know you CAN bling these up too. FYI , for all you ham hands that have trouble grabbing these little dudes , a pair of flat bottom grips go a long way towards makin it doable.
