OK enablers. I keep seeing the pictures of these fine as all get out weapons and I have only one question that has not been answered...
What do they cost??
I know for absolutely sure one day I will have mine made but I need to know BEFORE I sound like a deaf idiot on the phone when they say.. 2 grand, 25 hundred, whatever. What is the cost of a beautiful custom build?

As they say, the devil is in the details! As low as $ 500 to five figures if you want to spend that. Let’s do this, you list some features and specifics and we can come much closer to answering you question!

I don't know enough to list specifics. That is the issue. I have never had a custom pistol built. I have never had a custom action / trigger job. Ideally one day I will be able to afford such work, but for now I need to know how many ice cream sammiches I need to skip to make it happen.

Typically (if there is such a thing) you send a $600 base gun off for a couple of years which gives you time to pay the $2500-$3500 that a nice custom will cost. Custom cylinder, barrel, sights, finishes, grips, etc

Hop on over to Bowen Classic Arms website. Go to the catalog page. He has packages plus options.
For grips, for high end, go to Rowen Custom Grips. He has a price page. The really good stuff, like bighorn, is extra.
For instance, Bushog’s latest midframe 45. Longhunter package - under big bore caliber conversions - with S&W barrel - $3495. Probably a bit more since his is a 5 shot. Also note additional charge for welding on top strap, etc.
Then go to the option page and look at all the stuff Greg mentions, ERH, rod, blueing, cylinder chamfer and so on.
Don’t forget the base gun and a whole lot of shipping (Rob needs the whole gun).
It’s not for the faint of heart. You kinda have to ease into it and horse trade your way into what you like.
They are works of art. Tim

Ok, I am trying to stop my heart palpitations... Yep, ease into it and decide what I want. Got it. I had no idea this realm of custom work was available or what it cost. I am a farm boy living on the plains and had no idea. Thank you for the responses.

I am in the same boat as the op. I have had multiple custom center-fire bolt action rifles built, but I believe a custom handgun will be probably be different. I do have a list of what I want done, but I don't know who to contact for the work. Since I am in Mississippi, I was thinking about Powers since his website says he is in Louisiana.

I'm working on my third now. Just sent a Bisley off to Jack Huntington. I went middle of the road on my first one. Custom 5 shot from Bowen with grips from Rowen. When all was said and done I was north of 4K with the base gun and all. Ain't looked back and do not regret it.
When you start getting into Color Case, barrel profiles other than round/banded or top strap modification is when the price really goes up. Worth is subjective but like other have said they are works of art. I appreciate and adore their craft. I'm thankful I've been afforded the ability to aquire these craftsmans fine work.
I generally try to save the money up before I send one off. I like knowing that if work slows down I dont have to worry about coming up with the money when the time comes. I've been lucky that both my Bowen and Clements gun (even though quoted 12 months plus) both came back to me inside of 6 months.
Having a custom built ain't for the faint of heart. Patience and trust go a long way. If you appreciate fine details and mechanical perfection then you will not regret it if you go down this road.

This'll help with ideas too... singleactions.proboards.com/thread/11406/handgun-blue-print-threadI've had two full customs done up and I'm still VERY satisfied with my Late '72 Blackhawk build by Dave Clements/Doug Turnbull... Base Revolver: Late 1972 Blackhawk (45 Colt) quite possibly made the month and year I was born. Barrel: S&W 57 barrel re-bored to .45cal Cylinder window opened and oversized 6-shot cylinder installed to "Fill it" SBH hammer installed SBH gripframe installed and trigger guard rounded (If I had only known what the future would hold in regards to brass grip frames) Wide OM Trigger installed Bowen Target Rear Sight Custom front blade with vertical white line Crescent Ejector Rod Button Hunter Length Ejector Rod Housing w/ oversized allen head screw installed. Belt Mountain Locking Base Pin Manzanita Burl Grips made by the late Brian Neely "Keno Slim" of Klamath River Woodworks (He was PURE Gentleman and wonderful to talk with) Doug Turnbull Case Hardening on the Cylinder Frame and all the other bluing is slowly turning a Beeeeeautiful plum burgundy color. Load: Beartooth Bullets 345gr WLNGC squeezed into early Federal Cases (as recommended by Mr. Linebaugh) over a good dose of H110 and lit by a Winchester Large Pistol Primer for 1214fps. The other revolver went to my best friend who passed away last year and now his son owns it. Hoping to shoot it with him again someday soon. PRICE: Can't remember anymore and don't care... the ride was worth every penny!Good luck on your journey... hope yours will be as fun as mine has been.

Just simply beautiful. I understand years after not remembering the cost. The ride was worth it. But I still gotta sleep on the couch till it blows over. LOL. I just gotta figger out with as much as I am shaking and as little as I see, is it worth it.

Airborne, I searched auction sites and found my first custom already built. It wasn’t exactly what I was looking for but it was very close. Cost was a bit less and in the end after playing with it, I made the changes I wanted and turned it into a beautiful custom.
My first built gun was decided on after a couple of years on here almost buying some other guns and finally deciding on a build. It was a “plain Jane” working gun that has become one of my favorites. You can see it by searching for 500L Bear Spray, I am planning on sending another out to JRH for a new build here in a few weeks. Bear Spray cost roughly 2000.00 not including the donor gun. My next I’m thinking will be closer to 3k. SS or some other utility finish will cost less, nice blue and CCH can add quite a bit to the total.

bigbrowndog, I noticed your avatar pic is a Bisley.
I have recently come round to that grip frame myself!

Nobody asked the question so I will. What do you want to do with this revolver? Is it a barbeque gun only taken out on sunny days to be looked at and drooled over . Or is it going to be a using, shooting, hunting, carried every day gun, rain or shine? For me they would be two different guns with different spec's. I lean more to the utilitarian side, Oversized cylinder, Bowen sights, topstrap tapped for scope mount, Belt Mtn. basepin, grips that don't hurt ,they can be pretty, 5"barrel .45 Colt DEEP BLUE barrel, though stainless wouldn't break my heart. That to me would be a using custom. I truly love beautiful guns but look at them with a different eye. I could never have a truly beautiful revolver like stumpbusters, as I would never use it, or drop it in a holster.
