Good goin y'all! I haven't got a single deer while hunting this season. Have only even seen a few. I killed two while working around the place but wasn't “hunting”, and i used a rifle.
But i did take my nephew hunting and got his first deer this year, so I am excited about that. That’s what it’s really all about anyway, right?

Totally envious! It is hard to get drawn here in AZ, last game and fish said that over 300,000 put in for tags, and only 26,000 got drawn. You are blessed!
I have to stick with my javelina I got in August 2019. I can’t post the picture, and it doesn’t have the gun in the shot anyway, but it WAS my 4” model 57 41 mag. Shot it dead on. Shattered the skull, guy said it was a total loss. I was able to save the bullet though. Cast myself.

Well, as I mentioned before,, I'm usually hunting alone,, and getting pics in the field & all, especially with me in them isn't normal. But,, I did get my last deer of the season a few days ago,, and here's a picture of him hanging,, with my Contender that took him. This deer came out limping badly,, and I feared he was severely injured. I chose to take him to end any potential suffering or a slow death. I found he only had a cut pad on one hoof,, and would have likely healed. But as badly as he was limping,, I thought he was bad enough to warrant a humane kill. Not big,, but still a good eating deer! And that's my main focus,, filling my freezer!

Gee,, Zeus remembers. Yes,, I'm fond of that caliber in my Contender. I actually have a pair of barrels,, as well as several others. But it's my "go to" gun when I want serious accuracy,, and since I prefer a neck shot,,,, it's easily accurate enough. And my main focus is meat for my family,,, so it is my preferred gun. I had hoped to get a few more deer before I left for my elk hunt,, which would have allowed me to use my revolver for that as well as a few does when I returned. Didn't happen. No elk,, so the meat whacker had to be used. In my area,, my shots can get to about 100 yds,, however,, usually less than that. BUT,, I have a serious problem with next door land users who would claim a deer I shot if it runs too far,, especially the wrong direction. So,, an instant, DRT in the track kill while not ruining any meat is my preferred method. My poaching neighbors never get a chance at any I shoot at. Plus,, they already tried to poach a buck with a gut shot,, and I was lucky enough that he showed up on opening day before he died a slow painful death. He had been shot 1-2 days BEFORE the season,, and had a lethal wound that would have taken days to kill him. Busted intestines,, leaking out his belly exit wound. My local game warden is aware of them,, and has tried to slip in on them to catch them doing wrong. He will too,, eventually. He has permission to cross me anytime.

Hate you have to deal with neighbors like that. DRT is always best.

Yeah,,,, that "brown & down poacher crowd," makes things interesting here. I keep doing little things to try & discourage them. I re-posted my property lines,, AND added a "Smile for the Camera" sign. I put out an inactive, easy to see,, yet hard to reach dead camera out there too. I haven't had it molested,, yet. I also have been discussing ideas with the local Warden. He's going to try & surprise these guys with visits.
