When cartridges are inserted into the cylinder, the rim rubs hard on the trough under the loading gate, requiring a firm push to get the round in about the last 3/4 of an inch. Unloading is even harder. If the rim clears the frame, I can usually pound the ejector rod with the side of my hand to get the brass out of the cylinder. Sometimes the rim hits hard on the frame and I have to take the cylinder out of the revolver to unload. With the loading gate open and looking straight through a chamber, it is apparent that the cylinder rotates too far clockwise to line up with the loading trough. Ruger just took a look at it last week and replaced the loading gate and spring. Why? I don't know. Of course it didn't fix the problem. The gun has had exactly 12 rounds fired through it and I used to really like it. If Ruger is not willing or able to fix it what are my options? I think there's a way to disable the reverse indexing pawl but I don't know how to do that. Any advice? Really disappointed with my ruger.

To load and unload are you rotating the cylinder clockwise until it clicks then rotating it back until it stops and holding it there?

I would send it back , assuming it is obvious that it is not indexing properly .

Is this a Flat Top model 44spl? If so you could remove the set screw, plunger and plunger spring. That should let the cylinder rotate either way so you can load and unload easily.

Its headed back to ruger again. The nice lady I spoke to at customer service said she would include a note to have a supervisor look at it. Updates will be provided when available.

Sorry for the trouble with your gun. Please let us know how Ruger handles it.

My gun came back today for the second time. Ruger made it right. They deepened the loading trough and repolished and reblued the entire gun. It looks very nice. I believe the blueing is now much deeper and glossier than it was. Now I am glad that I initially had problems with the revolver as its a nicer gun than I could have hoped for.

Frustrating when that happens. Had a friend bought a FA83 in 475 Linebaugh. Had to send it back twice due to the cylinder locking up.
But, in the end, I bet you end up with a great gun.
