A few months ago I bought an FA 83 in 357 Mag. It had a 9.5 inch barrel, silhouette sights and pachmayr grips. Thanks to assistance on here. I removed the gripframe sent it toe Scott Kolar for grips. I then ordered Leupold base and rings for it. Finally I located a used Leupold 4x scope. The Silhouette rear sight was removed along with the hooded front. Almost got it completed. Just need the front sight base removed by a local gunsmith. Now I'm ready to work up loads. Definitely will refer to Taffin's data for the 353.

Great looking rig! Load up with 180 XTPs and find yourself a deer.

Nice gun, but why would you remove the front sight base?

To have a clean profile. The front sight on a scoped gun doesn't look right to me.

Ok, was just curious. I'm afraid of doing that due to occasionally changing directions.
I've even gone to Weigand Bases on most revolvers, SSK Bases in my FAs. The slots allow mounting just about any type of optic sights.
Appreciate your sharing info. I always enjoy learning from other Forum Members.

Mine has the 6" barrel, fluted cylinder, black Micarta, and a Leupold 2.5-8. It frequently thinks it's a rifle.
I have read and re-read the article you are referring to looking at the loads. I've not quite gone as high as Taffin did, but close. I've played mostly with Sierra and Hornady 180 Silhouette bullets and as much H110 as the cut down 360 DW cases will hold. I have some compression with H110, but 4227 tends to crunch when I get to the very high teens. The 360 DW brass was an experiment as they have a thick web but less capacity. They fall out of the chamber after firing though. As I seem to remember Taffin stating, the brass is the only weak link in seeing some crazy velocities. I have over 7 heavy loads on 5 pieces of the 360 DW brass, and they do not seem to be any worse for wear.
That looonnnggg barrel will let you see some velocities I will never experience. Even with a 6" barrel, it's still pretty impressive.
BTW, your SK grips look great!

Great looking revolver! I have the 7.5” version and it’s impressive with 180 partitions and as much H110 the case will hold without buckling during seating. It makes for a mean hunting handgun!
