OK, with all the stuff I have going in my shop, I'm not finding the blade I took out of my .480 Ruger 5 shot. I also can't find a 30 Carbine cylinder that I got from Bobby Tyler. I also dropped one of the stainless steel discs I use to make my Mirror Sights. I might have a portal to an alternate dimension in my garage. Be kinda cool in Thor would drop in for a visit....
Anyhow, can one of you guys please get your calipers and measure the factory blade height from it's highest point to the top of the ramp for me? And for you guys who have shot your .480's is the factory blade height adequate?
I'm cutting some blades profiled for the Ruger stainless front ramp pin in units today. Let me know if you need one. PM your phone number for a picture please.

Don't have measurements handy yet. Have a one height higher Sixshot on the front of my 6.5". Stepped my loads up to hunting level this last week and found myself bottomed out on the rear sight. So, yes, you will want to go higher than stock.

I can go pretty high with these blanks, but not everybody holds the gun the same so there is some variation.
On guns like the Bearcat, where a grown man carries it in his pocket for targets of opportunity, that's a different height than say a 11 year old child might need.
While I'm at it, I wonder if you guys would post what heights you have for your 45's and 44's as well...

Stock height on the 4 5/8" 480 BSBH is .350". The step higher here by way of Idaho,on the 6.5" 480 BSBH, goes .375". So much matters as to the load levels you shoot and your hand-size, grip strength, as to the height you will want.

The .350 factory blade on my 6 1/2" 480 is not nearly high enough for 390-410 grain bullets. It works for the 325 grain Speer. There may be some that can hold the gun in a way to make them hit with that short factory blade and heavy bullets but I haven't heard of anyone that can. I would definitely go taller.

The 3 screw blue Old Models often had a too short front sight. Thanks for taking time to post.

I sold all my standard long range blades but I also ordered a bunch more blanks from my supplier. I do have some No5 style pin in blades still available if that would help you.
