My SP101 4.2 inch is pretty darn cool ! Shot it today at 25 feet, i had six factory, 100 grain Jacketed speers, and shooting single action , they shot pretty well, I fired 50 rounds of Montana bullet works, 110 grain FN GK. these are sized at .312, i used 10.8 grains of AA#9. My results were ok, but mildly disappointing. I would get some tight little clusters, but some bad flyers too. I have 50 more of these bullets to shoot, so i will use them up, figure i might as well learn something while i am at it, I have read AA#9 is THE powder for 327. But each gun is different, so think i might try H-110 or 2400 and see if i get better results, or do you think i should bump up my Charge weight and stick with #9. I will order some 120 grain FN GKs, to try next, i would like opinions on size please, Montana Makes .313s and .314s . I will also order or buy some other grips for my little six shooter, The factory rugers are cool, but just to damn small ! ...thanks ! tj3006

The throats in my SP101 327 Federal are. 313". I highly recommend the GT Bullets in 115 grn option.
Of course, there are several good choices of bullets. I feel .312" is undersized for cast.

I shoot .314 in all of my .327’s, but they all have .314 throats. You will get best results sizing to throats. I use 2400 and H110 in my .327’s. I haven’t tried aa#9.

On the 115 grn 32 bullets I'm not sure I have gone past 1250 fps. I do size them to .309" for my 30 Carbine Blackhawk with full power loads.

I shoot a 104 gr plain base powder coated cast over 1100 fps using Longshot (great powder) I also shoot a 116 gr powder coated HP really fast & the 135 gr Ferminator HP with a gas check over 1500 fps using H110.

You need a set of pin gauges to check your throats. You might take your gun/guns to a local gunsmith & have him check them for you.....take donuts! Don't think a .312" bullet will ever work, got to be .313" or .314".

with no pin gauges handy, i decided to try something else, i took 1,00 grain hornady bullet that mikes at .312 and drop it into the chambers fals through easy ! i think i will order some 120 grain gas checked sized .314, Clearly .312 is to small, I will start with light loads, just in case. I bet if i ask nice he would give me a few .313s to try....

The trend I notice (mostly in forum) involves a lot more measuring than shooting. I see reference to too big of throats and cylinder gap being tight and blah, blah.
I’ve got examples of guns that by the “rules” stated here shouldn’t shoot well but simply do. That bullet that “slipped through” could shoot as well as any. Stop measuring and go shoot. Most guys who own the gauges and feelers and calipers just like to post about the numbers and shooting is secondary.
That being said, just listen to Sixshot.

I have shot the .327 Federal more than any other lately, and so far have never used a factory load. As COR mentioned I have measured a lot too. My experience shows most throats in the Rugers I own (about ten) run .314 and just a couple were smaller so I reamed them to be the same. Most grooves are right at .313. As for loading, I cast my own bullets from basically wheel weight material plus a bit of tin, size to .314 and lube with Carnuba Red. I favor bullets on the heavy side, 120-140 grains and your SP should have cylinder length enough to handle most weights from light to heavy. I run gas checks on most loads but have good results on non checked as well and have had excellent luck with every powder I have tried. The vast majority of my powder has been WC 297 (similar to 296/H110) and 2400. I have AA#9 but haven't tried it yet because the WC297 works so well and I have a lot. I have also used Unique and Power Power Pistol. I favor full power loads and with them find that accuracy is based solely on how my day is going, these revolvers all seem to want to shoot, and shoot well. My skills don't do them justice! Currently its my favorite caliber to load and shoot. The SP101 is a great choice and should be loads of fun for you!

Apparently our knowledge and experience has been declared null and void. Unfortunately, it also means I wasted 11 months and a lot of money on a FA 327/32-20. Ditto on five custom 327s from Bowen, Clements and Reeder.
