i've been seeing more and more of the new type of crimps showing up here. Not sure of correct terms. Profile crimp ? Collet type die ? In seeing the pics of peoples rounds thus crimped, Weatherby double venturi shoulder came to mind ! What I'm wondering is how the mouths of the cases are holding up ? Seems like extra working of the brass to me. If, when, truly needed to keep the bullet in place, why sure. It does seem like it is almost becoming the style though. Your thoughts ?

Yep... on my boomers I Lee factory, or Redding profile... but agree that works the brass more... I taper crimp when ever I can

I HAVE SOME TOP BRASS HEAD STAMPED BRASS IN 45 COLT THAT I HAVE RELOADED MANY, MANY TIMES IN 250gr AROUND 1,300fps LOADS USING A LEE FACTORY CRIMP DIE AND A SPLIT NECK IS RARE, DITTO FOR OTHER BRANDS OF 45 COLT BRASS THAT I HAVE RELOADED SEVERAL TIMES AT SEVERAL LEVELS OF 45 COLT LOADS FOR USE IN COLT, RUGER AND S&W REVOLVERS. IF THERE IS A SPLIT NECK PROBLEM USING THE LEE F/C DIE IN 45 COLT I HAVE NOT SEEN IT.

I collet-crimp .44 Colt and .44-55- needed to hold the heel-base bullet against recoil. This does work the brass more but there is a fix- to anneal the mouth of the case between reloads. This seems to greatly extend the life of the case, though I have no data on how much. My .38 S&W cases get a fairly heavy roll-crimp and are starting to experience splits between 7-10 reloads. I'm going to try annealing them as well and see what effect that has.

Edit: Used Google Photos to upload. Sportsman's Warehouse had Buffalo Bore heavy 45 Colt loads. Wondered if a Lee Factory Crimp Die or Redding Profile Crimp die would duplicate it. So, assuming the picture shows, is this the crimp you're talking about, bula?

Yup, that's the crimp. My older B.B. 44 305gr LFN's do not have this newer type crimp. Old school rolled in crimp.
