I held a 'Coffee Social' today for gun-buddies from Facebook; basically really good coffee, maybe someone brings some pastries and we have a ball doing show-and-tell. No politics, just gun nuts showing and discussing their toys and shooting. One fellow showed up with a Police Positive in .32-20. I had no idea the D-frame was available in this caliber! I nearly swooned with lust. Then it occurred to me- I have a Detective Special... If I could find a .32-20 cylinder I could swap it straight in and have a .32-20 detective Special. How cool would that be?!
I checked around, and I can in fact find such a cylinder. In worst-case I could find another .32 New Police cylinder and get a .32-20 chamber-reamer... No, I'm not going to mod the stock cylinder. But this could be done, and wouldn't cost the world... hmmm...
This led, by devious means, to thinking about my long-standing desire for a S&W Terrier in .38 S&W. I have an I frame .32, maybe I could purchase a barrel and cylinder in .38 S&W... yes, yes I can. Under $200 including shipping.
Sadly my business has it's ups and downs, and right now I can't afford to pay attention, let alone be undertaking projects of this sort. But when the 'ups' come back I have a lot to think about...

What saves me is that I have the desire and inspiration, but lack the talent ...

I think your brain is very very busy and could use a few minutes of downtime.

A wee bit of caution needed when shopping for a police positive cylinder . They come in at least 2 lengths . When barrel marked "Police Positive" they chamber shorter rounds . 32 S&W, 38S&W/38 Colt. When barrel marked "Police Positive Special" they had a longer cylinder for 32-20 ,38 spl. etc.
