Hand in hand with the mispronunciation goes spelling. How many times do you see "454 Casual" on this forum? 454 Casual , aka the 454 Autocorrect. It's very similar to the popular Clock 19.

I have a friend who insists on saying Bysley for Bisley. Drives me nuts. Not as much as "I could care less" though! Hate that one!

Another that bugs me is Garand , as in M1 Garand. Most pronounce it Ga Rand ( the a next to the g they pronounce as an u as in up). Garand is actually pronounced Ger End.

The Garand thing has been my gun-related pet peeve for longer than I can remember. Recently, I watched a you-tube video in which a noted firearms "historian" mispronounced it. So, for anyone who wants it from a famous author and personal friend of Garand's, read it on page 382 of Hatcher's Notebook, by Maj. Gen. Julian S. Hatcher, copyright 1962, The Stackpole Co., 3d Edition, 2d Printing, April, 1966, Library of Congress Catalog Card Number 62-12654. On the other hand, I've held steadfastly to the "Kuh-SULL pronunciation since I first read the name decades ago. But now, with corroboration from David and John, I must admit that I've been wrong. That's a hard pill to swallow, but there it is! By the way, if you haven't read Hatcher's Notebook cover-to-cover at least once, you don't yet qualify as a true gun-guy.

Lapua is often mispronounced. Its pronounced lop-oo-uh, all short fast sounds. Lol, I hope I showed the pronunciation correctly.

Then there is the scope maker Leupold and still some say Leo-pold instead of Loo Pold. But another annoyance is the gun maker from Czech, BRNO. How many times have you seen someone add a U to it, BRUNO. ARRRGGHHH!!! I hate that. Pronounced just like it looks, burrno, or berno.
