With that endorsement...had to look ! Looks to be the big brother to the PP 38 spec here that my uncle carried thru WW2. Though the little guy here shows lots of carry wear and the years show.. There is something special about the ole war horse type revolvers.

Someone likes it enough to bid over sixty five hundred dollars on it. Confirms the OP's contention, but it sure ain't my cup of tea, or coffee for that matter. Put a SAA in similar condition next to it and I wouldn't even notice the New Service.
YMMV, Dave

There is a not so flattering discussion thread regarding that seller over on the Colt Forum.

Put a SAA in similar condition next to it and I wouldn't even notice the New Service. YMMV, Dave Don't know about that. We had a similar revolver, albeit with years of honest use on it. That old warhorse was a joy to shoot. A 250 grain LFN and 9.0 grains of Unique would send those bullets into tiny little groups. Oddly enough, the bore had a small patch of pitting midway down. Despite that, it still shot better than most new revolvers.
Sadly, when my Dad died, another family member pulled a fast one and ended up with it.
That is the one revolver I'd really like to get anther of. Don't see too many locally, most are in .45 ACP and or beat to heck. I certainly don't need another badly enough to drop 6 grand on. Yeah, I'd buy a good many Single Actions instead starting with a .44 spl Vaquero or two.

Seems it's for sale again unless the first one didn't sell. The first listing is expired so I can't see the SN. Still an uncommonly handsome revolver to me. www.gunbroker.com/item/871378605
