I have looked at that gun a few times on GB. With no provenance, there is nothing to indicate who has touched it. The slightly above average person on this board could have done the work to this gun. Everything except the barrel banner removal is bolt on. The throats may be touched or nay have come that way. If I were buying it, I would buy it on the merits of the gun, not on the chance it was done by one of the masters. I have a similar small build Linebaugh in 45 and John marks his.

The barrel was one of the things the newbie in me was able to spot. Thanks for the info!

Agree with above.
Base pin is the knurled style Bowen tends to use.
Front sight isn't typical Bowen.
Grips are nicely fitted, but on a stainless gun you can do that at home using Hogues.
Rear sight is a $100 value.
Proper throats are worth the knowledge you don't have to mess with them.
Hammer and trigger look polished, again indicates nothing of significance.
I've seen billboards removed leaving waviness in the barrel. At least this was well done (as best I can tell with marginal quality pics).
The factory polish job is above average, so it's a good base gun at least.
I think $800 is a more realistic value- The gun, the grips, the base pin, and front sight are what you pay for there. I realize it would cost more than $800 to reproduce, but that's the market IMO.

Without documentation of who did the work it is just a used Bisley with a somewhat worn Bowen rear sight. The gun appears in good condition but from the wear on the sight it has been a working gun Id guess. Its used, possibly shot a fair amount but you certain cant tell from the picture, It certainly dont think it is worth any more than you can buy a new one of those for and honestly probably less. Its not like those 5 1/2" stainless guns are rare.
Buy steak not the sizzle...

I agree with above stmts. most top Smith’s mark their work yes but usually not minor stuff done to the above gun. That’s stuff is their day to day bread and butter work as Mr. Harton has said. I’ve done more to my SAs in my garage than done above on quite a few Rugers with exception of removing barrel writing. I had a guy on EBay fit my bisley grips I got from him just as good if not better than on that gun above. $750 is more my number you never get all your pennies back for parts you buy and install just like a muscle car.

Funny enough mr.harton is at the top of my list of Gunsmiths to call to try to find one to work on my Ruger.

Alan isn't working on Rugers these days but there are plenty of good smiths around with relatively quick turn arounds.

I saw that gun and nothing done to it says,......well known custom name did work. I agree with the front sight merely being installed backwards, to me that screams,...novice!!!
