The Desert Ironwood grips on the Steampunk Snubby were looking a little sad, so I refinished them last night. Started hand-sanding at 320 grit and stopped at 3000 grit, then applied a thin coat of Minwax Clear. Results were pretty great, and hopefully the minwax will keep them better-looking for longer.

What is the gun ? Ive Johnson ? What caliber ? S&W .38 Double-Action Safety Hammerless (4th Model.) The barrel is shortened to 1-5/8", it has a new front sight and of course the custom grips. The caliber is .38 S&W- an interesting cartridge. Current factory loads are very much a 'lowest-common-denominator' sort of thing- they are designed not to damage the worst gun ever made in this caliber (and there was some really crap guns chambered for this cartridge!) In a quality gun- S&W, Webley, Enfield- it can be loaded rather hotter, making it about on-par with .380 ACP. The bore of these guns is typically .361 rather than .357. With a soft-lead bullet it really doesn't matter; they seem to 'bump up' the extra few thousandths with no problem. Hard-cast or jacketed .357-diameter bullets have a tendency to experience a lot of blow-by and sometimes even keyhole.

Tink... have you ever looked at doing a half mercury dime for a front sight??? Always wanted to do one from the year of one of my guns, and leave the year exposed
