I like that... 454 Casull pretty loud with the ports??? love the black grips, & am thinking I want a fiber optic front ( though I prefer red on the front ) when I bought my 1st Ruger Alaskan, nearly everyone was saying that I'd be whacking myself in the head... they had me worried, & I was looking at getting it ported before I even shot it... well I'm glad I shot it 1st... recoil wasn't as bad as the muzzle blast... & looky... no dents in my head  |

The porting was just something I wanted to try on one of these. Turns out Magnaport is right down the street from Magnum Research. I have had Magnaporting and other versions of porting on several other guns. I have shot side by side with the same gun, one magnaported and one not (3" 629's)and had a couple friends do the same. We all agreed it made a difference with the heavy loads. After shooting the 500 S&W's with their muzzle breaks I am pretty sure I am just a little more than hearing impaired. Was already def in one ear and can't hear out of the other to begin with.

My 45-70 ported Super 14 Contender barrel under the tin roof over my shooting bench requires both plugs & muffs to keep my eyeballs from rattling around  my retired buddy that made the custom Dan Wesson Barrel nut compensators cut through, angling towards the front, & those make them actually "quieter" I know I can't say that from, a suppressor point of view... so let me rephrase that, they are the same noise level of the barrel 1 inch longer... I'm wondering if any of these guys porting are cutting their slots, or ports at an angle towards the muzzle??? I don't think I have any closeups of how they are cut... you can see a little of the front edge on this one... a 44 Magnum  |

I'm running out of space... I want one long cylinder yet... always wanted one in 375 Winchester... but lately I'm leaning towards a 5.5" 45-70, as a companion gun to my Marlin Guide gun in 45-70
I see all of yours are standard length frames... are you going to get one ( just because ) in a long cylinder model???

Excellent looking family portrait you got there. I am a believer in the bfrs. That short barrel length is just plain handy and in these pistols there is accurate is anything else you will find.

I have a 4" 454 (Customized Redhawk) with quad MagNaPort and it REALLY tamed the muzzle flip and torque/twist of the gun. My 7.5" FA 454 with Pachmeyers is perfect the way it is. No need for MagNaPort. From what I've been able to ascertain, MagNaPort makes the most difference on short barreled heavy hitters.
