John, I recall you writing about the Competitor, with a barrel shroud like a Dan Wesson and also a Ram that had a similar shroud setup and a single action grip. You still have these or know if they are still around? Thanks, Dennis

Anyone have/had one? Thinking of a switchable barrel setup? What you think? ***** The Pachmayr Dominator is a single shot, bolt action conversion which mounts to a 1911 frame in place of the slide. The conversion sits top the frame rails; a lug sits in the magazine well. A draw bolt through the mag well tensions the unit. A shell-holder type bolt lifts and closes with a small tab on the rear. Another Dominator unit is require change calibers. David Bradshaw

dmad, When they first came out I had Pachmyer make one in 30-30 and used it to take whitetail. Sold the 30-30 and found another in 7-08 which is on my Gold Cup frame... They were interesting and being from NJ I did not need a purchase permit to get one.... Top photo shows two 30-30`s.. the Dominator and Contender. Next is 30-30 Dominator and deer and bottom is 7-08 that I still own.

.223....can't stand the cheesy safety, which is rather redundant. Forget to turn it off half the time, haven't gotten around to cutting it off. Otherwise, pretty neat.

Do you have to really cut the safety? Recall a Pachmayr video and the little safety ring can be simply pulled off? Then use the 1911 safety on frame.
Can the the 357 SM take more pressure in the Dominator?

Was kidding, not cutting the safety off, just being dramatic, sorry.
As for increasing the 357 max psi of 40k: if the Dominator lugs can handle the 55k psi of .223 or 62k psi of a .308, one might be tempted to assume...I wouldn't, but there is probably a safety margin in there.
