That is a great looking gun, but why would anyone port a .44 Special? I'm thankful for it, in this case. Totally took away my initial temptation to bid.

That was my thought as well. The ad says it's a S&W barrel but you can clearly see it says Sturm Ruger on the side.

I've never seen a Bowen revolver marked like that and I've seen and owned a few with Smith barrels. Not my cup-o-tea with those extra holes in it. Now...if it had a Clements hammer on it it might be worth saving.....

That’s a Bowen marked cylinder.... can’t say about the rest of it. I can’t imagine porting a 44 special .... a shame.

I'm guessing it is a Security Six barrel that has been rebored.

I'd have to see the Bowen build sheet before I'd think about putting a bunch of money in it...

Ruger never made a Barrel with that rib on the top and smith and Wesson does. If you look at some pictures of smith barrels it’s obvious. Bowen customarily would put the Ruger info on the barrel during their customization process. So due to those details and Bowen’s confirmation it is a smith barrel. Thanks for your input. Yes it’s a beauty!
This is from the seller, I asked about the Ruger barrel....

I would think there would be some trademark infringements by Bowen stamping a S&W barrel with a Sturm Ruger brand.

The lines definitely favor a S&W barrel more than a Security Six. The markings on the barrel in the auction do look darn close to a pre-warning Security Six, though they look to be engraved, rather than roll-stamped. His pictures leave a lot to be desired. Barrel from auction: Barrel from Security Six

"The lines definitely favor a S&W barrel....” ----cubrock Barrel from auction: ***** Barrel sure looks like a drop forged S&W. The ill-placed marking appears etched----not a rollmark. The info is misleading, as it suggests manufacturer. The trapezoidal cuts appear to be Mag-na-Port EDM. The work looks better than the idea behind it. David Bradshaw

Has anyone seen Bowen mark a barrel with Rugers billboard before? Sellers says that's common. What would be the point? Seems counterintuitive.

The “billboard” refers to the newer “read the manual warning...” that being said, does seem an odd request but this is the same fella that ported it too soooo.... looks S&W to me too. That’s why they call them customs!

It doesn’t really matter since a take off model 29 barrel without the porting would get installed so fast it would make your head spin. The seller listed on the RF about these two guns and didn’t know the difference between a flattop and a protected sight model so take his info with a grain of salt.

When I visited BCA I saw some S&W type sight bases for use when shortening a S&W barrel. Liiks almost like it could be a security six barrel with one of those front sight bases on it. I still wouldn't own the gun with those holes in the barrel. Good luck getting someone to fix it.
