First, let me say Thank You to all here for the outstaning content of this site. I have learned a ton while lurking around.
On New Years day I was perusing GunBroker and found a Ruger Super Blackhawk with a low reserve. I have used GunBroker alot over the past 15 years or so, but was not familiar with the new "Take a Shot" feature. Apparently neither was the seller, because I made a pretty low offer thinking this would lead to some haggling, but it accepted the offer immediately. This was not the project I was looking for, but the price was right and I needed a little winter gun tinkering.
A few weeks later it ended up at my LGS for pickup and I have been reworking it since as parts become available. I will post pics once I am able.

Good job on your find. Seems like when ever I “peruse” GB I get myself in trouble, lol Welcome to the site.

Thanks for the welcome! I really didn't have a use for a 4- 5/8" Super, but I have always liked short packin pistol. So I started getting all my parts together to make a Bisley.

After some fitting, timing, and tuning, I'm just trying to find time to try it out. I didn't shoot it before hand, so I am hoping for the best. I may even test some .44 special loads.

I finally made it out to test my Bisley. I did my shooting at 15yds, Weaver stance, Winchester "White Box". Functioned well, trigger is new and needs to be stoned as it is a little gritty. Only shot 2 cylinders full, as I am also working with my 8 yr old son and his Bearcat. I think the accuracy is acceptable for stock ammo, but I think it could be better. This is my second Bisley and I find the grip makes 44 mag recoil relatively pleasant. What kind of accuracy should I expect from this 4-5/8"barrel?

With my reloads I can put all shots in that little orange circle with my 4 5/8" SBH at that range.

I may be at a little bit of a disadvantage as I do not reload. I found an accurate Barnes loaded offering for my 7.5" Bisley 44 mag, so I have never needed to reload. I would like to say with a little trigger work and practice I could tighten up my groups with my 4-5/8" using the Winchester offering as it is inexpensive and common. May be unrealistic. My goal is to shoot sub 3" groups at 25 yds. This will be my backup during bow season and all around farm gun.

"Perusing", Gunbroker and other sites has often been hard on my savings. I was perusing last week and found a Miroku Winchester 1886 Extra Lightweight High Grade. His starting price was low with no reserve so I made a bid slightly, but not much above his opening price thinking it would go for a lot more. I ended up with it for the opening price. Less than most grade 1s go for. It looks like I'm back into a 45-70. Of course I had to order 300 rounds of Starline brass. And I got in on one of the group buys for a 45-70 mold on Cast Boolits. It never ends.

Nice score! Looking for a SS 4 5/8 fluted cylinder 45 colt to do the same thing. Nice.

Very nice work Simpleman, your pistol looks great. Nothing wrong with your shooting, I had a torn retina a few years ago in my left eye, I wish I could shoot like that now, some days are better than others. I just learn to live with it. Good job buddy!

But not loading your own is a huge disadvantage, not to mention making for extremely expensive shooting! Good luck with the new revolver.

I have been looking at single stage set ups to load 357 and 44 mag. I may end up with one before the year is out.
