So, I have a Ruger 3 screw Blackhawk in 30 carbine, unfired, unconverted. Never loaded .30 Carbine, I aways shot surplus ammo in my carbines. I have revolvers in simular calibers .327 Magnums, .32 Magnums. I am told the barrels are .308...so unless I am sizing my own bullets converting to 32-20 might not be worth it. So....Make it a big bore? Make it a small bore? Sell it? Trade it? Need some ideas guys.

What's wrong with keeping that fine old gun and enjoying it just like it is?

mine was not particular well timed, & spit a lot... but as a 30 carbine handloader the cartridge can be tuned much better for a revolver, when handloaded... in surplus carbine format, it has a huge muzzle blast for the performance of the cartridge... there are several other powders that can be used in the revolver, that make it much more pleasant to shoot... because of the chamber alignment issues, mine wasn't particularly accurate as produced, I even tried mounting a scope, & never was able to get what I was looking for out of mine, so project gun it became...

Gary Reeder can make you one fine 300 GNR out of it as simple as a rechamber.
"...This one is simply a shortened 30-30 and intended for revolver use. We took the old 30 Herrett and shortened it 1/10 of an inch and made the case a bit straighter and the shoulder a bit sharper. This one will put a 110 gr. JHP out of a 7 inch barrel at 2200. No set back problems with this one either. Can be rechambered from a 30 Carbine Ruger."

Also the 321 GNR. The 357 Magnum case necked down to 30 caliber. I personally would opt to add a cylinder as opposed to altering the OM gun.

I opened my throats to .308" and made mine a Bisley. I once put 6 for 6 shots on a paper plate at 200 yards with it. (irons sights, resting my wrists on a large downed tree limb)
I asked the same question, what do I do with it? (because I'd just found a .32 H&R mag Bisley) which is what I really wanted) I just didn't think I needed it anymore. A friend said not to sell it because I would always be thinking about that 200 yard group.
I turned in into my 500 Linebaugh. He was right, it was a mistake. I love my 500 maybe more than any pistol I own, but it was the wrong gun to build on for a couple reasons, and he was right about that target. It still torments me.

My opinion: If the gun is as you describe, pristine, unmodified, it is of value to collectors. As such, I'd consider selling it to a collector and buying what you really want, or a more used gun for a project gun.

I have a first year no prefix bought new which in a moment of weakness I sent in for the conversion with the idea of going small bore 224 then my oldest said he had a new model I could have. In the end I bought a new ss sbh for 224. And last year I found a carbine I liked to go with old model 30 carbine so I am glad I kept it Have a nice day DON K

Love mine... Using the same Accurate 31-120S that I use in the .327 Federal sized to .309 getting 1500 fps not even trying. Prefer the 90 grain Hornady XTP with some H110 powder when expansion is needed...
Even with factory military surplus loads it is an excellent shooter...
That said I have thought about rebore/rechamber to .41 Magnum to have a tapered barrel SBH...I would also want to put a SBH gripframe on it but it shoots so well as it I just can't justify it...

A 475 Heal based bullet fits in a 45 Colt case... Cylinders bored straight thru, and a 475 barrel added
