Probably a varmint call would work better.

This is my fast twist 22 Hornet ( a 1 in 9" barrel stabilizes up to 68 grain bullets ) this one stretches out nicely to over 100 yards... & works really well with 55 grain hollow points... Base gun is a Taurus 8 shot Raging Hornet, with a 6" Dan Wesson barrel shroud grafted on to it, with a 1 in 9" twist barrel... I have a K Hornet Reamer that has yet to find it's way to the cylinder, but expect it only gets better in K Hornet...

MW: WHAT KIND OF VELOCITY YOU GETTING WOTH THE 55's? 1,300 - 1,400 FPS? MORE? LESS? HOW DO THEY WORK ON CRITTERS AT LOWER REVOLVER VELOCITIES?

DOES ANYONE OUT THERE KNOW THE TWIST RATE ON THE MODEL 53 REVOLVERS?

I can’t recall any names at the moment, but there are any number of wildcat 22, 6mm, 25 cal etc rounds based on the 357 mag. 357 maximum, and 44 mag cases. One of those might be worth looking into.

over the past year I've given this some thought as one of my goals whenever i make it to the public land up north is to call in yotes and take them with a handgun. The main gun i always thought about getting for the job was a 7 1/2" barreled single seven, topped with some kind of scope and loaded with 85-100 grain cast bullets driven as fast as possible. Seems like such a rig would be easy to put together for not a lot of money.

Lil Gun gets me into the 1200 - 1400 fps range...out of the 6" barrel... And still get tolerable extraction... I've been trying pistol powders like 231, & AA#7 ... This is really in wildcat territory with heavier bullets, faster twist, & shorter barrel length... And the double action, extraction of 8 cases at a time, makes sticky extraction much more noticeable, than the single extraction of a single action
At this point, I've mostly shot for groups at 50 yards, experimenting with powders
Am really wanting to make the switch to K Hornet on this one, and a matching Ruger bolt action rifle I built

I carry a single seven Bisley 5 1/2” or FA 97 5 1/2” in .357 when Yote hunting.

Exactly what I had in mind when I got this 327 Federal, just fer Ohio yotes instead of Colorado, but I think it would double there as well, out to 125 or so yards anyways with the Sledgehammers and 5 sided holes in the end of em? Just not a Single action, but pretty flat shoot'n out to 100 yards.

MW: HAVE YOU TRIED 4227 IN THAT TAURUS/DW 22 HORNET REVOLVER?
TO ALL: A BUDDY OF MINE USED TO CALL IN COYOTES CLOSE IN THE HEAVY SOUTH TEXAS BRUSH AND SHOOT THEM WITH WADCUTTERS OUT OF A PYTHON. UP CLOSE IS ONE THING, IF I WAS GOING TO STRETCH IT TO 50 OR 100 YARDS WITH A REVOLVER, I WOULD PROBABLY SET UP ONE OF MY 327's FOR THE TASK.

we used to go out shooting jacks for mink food with my woodsman on some of our tdys in the Dakotas and Montana but it seemed too little gun. Even our 30=338s a time or two but that made the pieces too hard to find. Do have a sbh in K hornet with a matching ruger 77 I will take them along next trip out. The next pair I have been working on is the 218 m bee mostly because the hornets cases are so tender The rifle this time is a #1 rebarreled to 1 in ten. If none if this works out I have some backup in a ruger (also a hawkeye) mk 11 in 223 REM The calling stuff is already there, but some people tell me those big mean Colorado coyotes run to the sound of the guns, one can not believe every thing one hears these days. Have a nice day DON K

45... I think I have... but this project is a couple years old now, & hasn't seen the range in that long... the guys here have "perverted" me, & I've been shooting mostly single actions the last couple years... I should get the chambers reamed, & bring this one out to play a little this coming summer the companion rifle ( also 1 in 9 twist ) is 2nd down on the left side... needs a K Hornet chamber as well...
