I'm looking for a 686 with the 5" half lug barrel.
Actually I'm really just looking for a barrel.....
Can anybody help?
Will S&W sell me a barrel?

Will S&W sell me a barrel? ***** Not aware of Smith & Wesson ever selling a barrel----unless factory installs. Call S&W. In my experience, when the factory installs a different barrel, the takeoff is returned. Now I have a question: what is an S&W “half lug barrel?” David Bradshaw

You will have to call S&W to see if they will modify your existing gun. The problem is the 5" half lug barrel 686-6+ was a 2004 stocking dealer special and not a regular catalog item. If S&W even has any barrels left they might not part with them. The product code for this particular gun was 164284 if it's any help.
Since a 686 was always equipped with a full underlug these special guns are routinely noted as having "half lugs" just because it's a feature the gun wasn't normally equipped with. I probably wouldn't call a 629 with a standard barrel the same thing.

Probably not many know about the S&W model 619 and 620. They are L frame 7 shots designed in the 2000s to replace the 4 inch model 65 and 66. Here is a 620 www.gunbroker.com/item/795135060And a 619 www.gunbroker.com/item/791385497Obviously they never caught on but I would buy one for the right price. They do have a two piece barrel which is not typical of an L frame.

Oh Grasshopper..... Thanks for the tip but you have to be careful on fleabay as sellers are not of our breed. If you read further it is actually a 66 barrel. I saw that one several days ago and almost swallowed my tongue until I investigated....

I had a 66-8 that I traded off for something somewhere. It was a good gun, shot where you aimed, very accurate, it just didn't do anything for me that made me want to keep it. I do have a 69 also. It's accurate too but it's going to take a little more for me to let go of that one.
