Been saving for either a ruger 480 or 454. But I have 2 480, one in a encore and one in a ruger 4 5/8 barrel . So i have been reading a little on the 500 jrh . I have about got money saved up. And I am thinking about getting a magnum research bfr in 500 jrh. So need yall boys to school me on the 500 jrh , and school me with some loads with h110 and maybe some hs 6 loads. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

The 500 JRH is simply the 500 S&W shortened to 1.4". At least in the BFR as the FA Conversions require factory brass or the rims turned down.
I have two BFRs in the cartridge. A 5.5" and a 7.5", both nicely customized.
Load data is basically the same as the 500 WE using the standard loading precautions.
My favorite of the big bores due to the ease of finding cast, plated and jacketed bullets with ease.
You cannot go wrong in buying that fine gun...

I have a FA500JRH and it's a Monster and I love it. My buddy has a BFR and it turns monsters, like his 454, into pussy cats. I assume the combination of the two would be one serious, fine, handgun.
Encore already covered: the JRH is easy to shop for, easy to load for, and load data is available, if not exorbitant. I have a 480 and quickly found no use for it with the 500 in the stable...(But I'm weird like that sometimes)
Where you considering the Bisley or Rubber gripped version?

A great round. I have been enjoying mine quite a bit. I have dino loads and shoot all day loads and everything in between. I have tried about everything that has been posted here and a few that haven't. Do a quick search for 500 JRH and you will get a lot of good loads to try. I use 440 grain CP bullet over 28.5 of 110 and same for Sierra 400 JSP for the hard stuff. For all day fun load I have settled on Unique at 10.5 with a Missouri 400 grain bullet that I powder coat. In betweener for me is Longshot and HS-6 powders. Double check and do your research before trying loads. Start low and work up as usual. I would have to say this is the 50 to own of them all. You will not be disappointed.

You are wise to go with the bisley, love the plow handle/micarta but dinosaur loads bite hard. I have shot far fewer than firedude but agree it’s a wonderful cartridge. Hs6 loads feel like a 44 to me. the h110 full tilt are a whole notha level, makes 480/454 seem mild. I purchased the production model, fit is great, trigger crisp with no creep, .002 or so cylinder gap, front sight was canted, mri fixed it to their production specs. Hold onto that 4 5/8 480, I had the 6.5”, great gun and awesome cart but the BFR500JRH is a beastly platform.

The 500JRH is great, if my 480 wasn't such a great shooter I would sell it and never look back. Due to the popularity of the 500 S&W components are very reasonably priced and easy to find. For plinking loads the Rainier 335 gr HP is my favorite bullet. For ultra light loads Trail Boss is too much fun. For something stout but easy to shoot Longshot is great. If you want full speed grab H110/296 or 4227.

I got bit by the 500 JRH bug too. I've been looking into it for a while now and have a 5.5" BFR Bisley on layaway, I'll get it out next month.
