What are you OTHER favorite foods at thanksgiving, besides, turkey/ham, noodles, taters, stuffing, and green bean casserole?
It was noted while packing up left-overs at thanksgiving, that we pretty much just had meat and starch/carbs. So I'm curious what other favorites are spread across this varied nation of ours! I figured it still fresh in our minds, if not so much in the fridge...
I was wondering if I could scale-up a recipe for pan-fried green beans. Which is just green beans(usually french cut) and bacon, cooked and then fried/burnt in the pan to give them a different texture. Flavored with garlic and onion to taste.
Unique deserts are also welcome here!

Use shallot in those green beans with some slivered almonds.
Lightly steam the beans, saute'the shallot until sweet and glassy, add the almonds at the end and sautee until barely toasted.
Add the beans and toss in all that shalloty, almondy goodness and let sit covered for about 5 minutes.
Saute' in butter of course...

Pumkin pie with whipped cream Fruit mince pie. With whipped cream. Fruit salad. Sweet pickled beets And of course cranberry sauce. Gotta have cranberry sauce ! In the bird stuffing. I add about 1/2 gal of water to the pan with an 18 + lb turkey. Inside the aluminum foil . I start the bird at 450° for the first hour then reduce to 350 till it's almost done. Then open the foil and brown it. I baste it a Lot also. I like fully cooked AND moist turkey.

Ok, nobody laugh. We have for the last couple years been doing non traditional Thanksgiving meals. I have a pig cooker so one year we did BBQ, last year we ordered Chinese take out and this year we did hot dogs by the fire pit. Our family kinda got spread out so we don’t do the full spread like we used to. Christmas is when we are all together so dinner then, well that is full tilt all hands on deck.
But, back to favorites: pumpkin pie. We always have them. You’d be amazed at how well it goes with scallion chicken and lo mein.

When I was married the MIL always made Lasagna. She always made enough so ya could take a pan home too. I myself always looked forward to it more than turkey.

For us, the meat is either turkey, or ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes & gravy, sweet potatoes ( I prefer mine baked ) scalloped corn, green bean casserole, with crunchy onions on top, usually a salad, this depends greatly on who makes it, & can vary from lettuce salad to Snicker salad... cranberry relish... pies are usually (2) of these choices Pumpkin, Pecan, Cherry, Apple, or French Silk ( MRS makes a mean French Silk pie ) being carb restricted, I usually do mostly meat, with a small amount of taters & gravy, stuffing, ( somehow the gravy finds it's way to my meat & stuffing as well ) I usually end up with the green beans, even though I love scalloped corn... & I 'm usually too full to do the pies funny, we have a fairly large hispanic ( Texican ) population up here... I just had tamales for the pot luck Thanksgiving dinner we had here at work... I could eat Mexican every day, & not get sick of it...
