I put together a TC Contender Carbine with a youth stock from Haus of Arms and a 7-30 Waters 14" barrel I had my smith weld an extension too. He loves it and shoots it well. Put a 2-7 Leupold on it.

My sons was a barrel from JD in 6.5 JDJ. He killed his first big hog and his first deer with it then retired it. Hahaha. Moved on to the bolt guns pretty quick. Now at 11, he is banging steel at over 1.25 miles. But that 6.5 is a favorite of his. He has asked to bring it back and get some ammo loaded. He has a 260 from Melvin at NULA as well but he hasn’t haven’t tried it yet.

i gave my youngest son a rem m7(older one with 18.5" barrel) in 7-08. i "customized" the trigger(timney) and i loaded up some 139gr hornady fn discontinued(can't remember imr 4350 or 4320_) that goes 2600fps. he was at the time, 5' and 100lbs and it never "kicked". i have the same gun and caliber and load, it never "kicked" me. as a matter of fact, i can see the bullet impact on deer. or you can go the cz527 in 7.62x39. i am going to get this one in the fall. it will be my deer hunting rifle when i get older. Another vote here for the CZ 527 Carbine in 7.62x39, I am infatuated with mine. A lot of good choices already mentioned here but after trying the CZ 527 Carbine 7.62x39 this fall I would absolutely make that choice for a smaller shooter. And the youth version is even smaller than the "full size" carbine. My daughter took mine (even though she now considers it "hers") on her first Maine moose hunt this fall. She passed on several smaller bulls and although she came home empty handed, we were confident that it would do the job on broad side shots. The 7.62x39 would be a excellent choice for deer or hogs with Federal Fusion factory ammo or Barnes TSX handloads. Another perk I found is that all those .30/.32 caliber molds I have for my revolvers work great for small game and cheap shooting.

+ 1 on the CZ527/ 7.62x39, nice micro action, detachable mag, set trigger, nice open sights or the receiver is milled for scope rings, a lot of gun for the money. I shoot golf balls with mine out to 100 yards, open sights, and use it deer hunting in the cedar’s.
