today i got around to chrony two loads.....
500L tc encore/ 23" MGM heavy factory barrel 450gr lfn gc made from MBW 16.5gr of hs-6 1237fps avg of 5 shots 8.02 std dev
444 marlin tc encore/ 23" MGM heavy factory barrel 300gr fn gc (saeco/ 12+/-bhn/ Bullshop) 24.0gr of 2400/dacron 1625fps avg of 5 shots 9.11 std dev
the 444 was about right on with my guesstimate(1600fps), while the 500L guesstimate(1300+fps) was a little off. the 500L goes around 1 1/2 - 2" at 100 yards(5shots/bench). the 444 marlin goes around 3/4 - 1" at 100 yards(5 shots/bench). all rifles are dead on at 100 yards. its only to do 50 yards and less shot at a deer/black bear.
i haven't chroyed a load for years. about 12 years ago, i shot my last chronograph thru the screen. so i decided i didn't need it. since i've been doing cast boolits, i figure what the h-e-double hockey sticks, so i bought a caldwell ballistic precision chrony.

Good deal. I've shot several chronographs dead as a wedge. ;-) Every time with a striker fires autoloader immediately after shooting rifles . But, I do like chronographing the loads I shoot. Especially in my hunting rifles. I used to go for max working velocity in my hand loads. Now I'm more into moderate consistent velocities that have a low es and bullets leaving the barrel at the barrel occalation sweet spot. Your loads look good !

Buy a labradar. If you hit it, it’s time to quit shooting and probably sell your guns and take up knitting 😉

Shooting chronographs is therapeutic ! When Shooters Chrony's first came out they were warrenteed for bullet holes ;-) Why would I spend That much money on a chronograph ?? Labradars are rich men's toys. Like a lot of other things in the shooting world.

Doesn’t become a rich mans toy if you only have to buy it once instead of replacing several cheap units that got shot up.

i'll pass on a labradar. i'm fine with the caldwell's. if i shoot it AGAIN, then the "magik boolit" says "NO FPS FER YOU" . and i don't argue with the "magik boolit". i still have use the chrony in my 30-40 krag(165gr ranch dog), 45-70(405gr fbfn) and the 20 vartarg(34gr midway hp). they are all good powder-wise, i just want to find the fps. i'm more of a coldtriggerfinger guy, i like moderate loads and moderate velocity.

I've never hit my actual chronograph, but I have a gift for nailing the rods that hold up the screens!

It’s just nice to not worry about setting up something in front of your bench at a hot range or having to shoot through a tunnel. I’ve enjoyed it personally. I like to see the advances that they are making

Far longer than the current crop of high tek ones available. I mostly shoot alone, if there's more than 1 other guy at the range I leave. Do most of my chronographing off my deck in the back yard anymore.

I like to see the advances that they are making I completely agree. I want to get one of those bayonet looking ones. The name of which completely eludes me at the moment. But, I can get a complete ar15 upper or a striker fired autoloader for the cost of a new chronograph. The new gun has been winning that contest for the last several years.
