I'd never owned one, but this Elite 45 showed up at a local shop and I was intrigued. It's a beast of a pistol but shoots soft with 230gr hardball and cuts impressive groups even with off-the-shelf factory ammo. Should be a fun gun to work up accuracy loads for. Anybody else using the H&K USP series of pistols? If so, what have you got and how do you like it?

I have Elites and Experts in .45 ACP. They are superbly accurate and easy to shoot well. Great SA triggers, bold adjustable sights, and O-ringed HK quality barrel make these the most accurate polymer pistols I have ever owned. The USP platform is incredibly strong and reliable and offers a number of variants for fire controls. They are BIG pistols and the Elite is huge although not particularly heavy. I think you will find yours will shoot almost anything well.

Good pistols, just bulky typically. I don’t have the USP anymore, had a couple of regular 45s but still have one older MK23 in the camo bag they sold as a package way back when. It’s crazy accurate and shoots extremely soft. Suppressed, it’s just plain fun!

Owned two USP ‘s they were both some of the most accurate factory mass produced pistols I’ve ever owned. Both were 45.

I have one in 40 S&W. It is perfectly reliable (it has never malfunctioned). Mine like others have said is incredibly accurate. I don't shoot it much anymore but can't let it go. It is too good.

My brother and I bought the USP's in 40 S&W the first year they were available. Lots of rounds through them. They are accurate, robust and soak up recoil so they are very comfortable to shoot.
I have noticed over the years they are prone to rusting easily...odd since they were a SOCOM specced handgun for the Navy. I see rust on the slide release every time I carry it in my Hill People Gear chest pack. But it will also start rusting in wet weather if carried in a regular holster or a Wilderness Safe Packer. Just be aware and take care of the gun as it should be cared for.
I'd buy another in a heartbeat!

Nearly everything worthwhile has borrowed heavily from Browning, whether its creator admits it or not, and this includes Gaston Glock. The Germans continue with brilliant work from foundry and machine shop, yet in the most costly war ever, never quite came to terms with the brilliance of Russian simplicity. The haunting, dark perfection of German Gothic spills into Heckler & Koch pistols, ultimately shy of the savage reliability found in the HK G3 & HK 91, along with the slim, rip-snorting’ .223 variant. The USP----“Universal Service Pistol”----?----renders a more practical interpretation of sidearm than the accurate yet tactically compromised HK P7. The USP is a plastic & iron brick for the circus of tactical challenges it purports to address. Buy one, should it fit your hand perfectly to answer each imagined woe. I tried living with the cocked & locked permutation in .45 ACP. From curb distance to the length of a football field, it fell behind my old SIG/Sauer P220, and a host of Model 1911s. The USP carries modular embellishment a little far, adding bulk to the package to get you there. I have shot with fellows who really like the HK USP. I am not in position to dispute their choice. This is a case where curiosity must be answered on the Firing Line. You owe yourself no less. Have at it, David Bradshaw

Currently I have a USP45 and USP45c. They are reliable and accurate, albeit bulky. I haven't noticed either being rust prone, but I wipe down my guns before I put them up.

I carried my USP45 in a Galco Miami Classic for a 10-day trip hunting in SD. It's a big old blaster, but manageable with the right clothing. I would carry one on duty without a second thought, but concealed with light clothing would be a challenge.
