I found some powder in the box that hadn’t been opened since we moved into this house. 5 years, it’s been stored in a basement closet, so no doubt it’s still good.
I have three pounds of AA5744, pretty sure I’ve never used it before and I can’t remember why I bought it. Looks like it s a versatile powder, but I’m not finding anything that rings a bell with my failing memory.
Any ideas about what’s the best use for AA5744?

Cant say this is the best use for AA5744, but I use it for reduced loads for my daughters .223. Hahaha, it shoots it pretty darn good!

Great for the old black powder cartridges, magnum pistol rounds and reduced loads. Very useful powder. A great find...

BUY A WESTERN POWDERS MANUAL OR FIND AN OLDER ACCURATE ARMS MANUAL. LOTS OF INFO IN THEM.

You can go to Accurate's website. They have a online reloading service for their powders. It is free and you can print off the desired info if you choose. I've used their online info many times. I know they have data for the 475 and 500 Maximums for 5744.

I’ve been to the website, and looked through my old manuals. Nothing is jumping out at my as to why I would have bought 3 pounds of a powder I don’t normally use.

My favorite powder for 45-60 as well as 45-70. I've never used it in a handgun though.

Seems like I tried it for a while as a bulky (I like full cases) mid pressure load in 32-20 . I kind of remember it shooting well but some unburnt powder.

Having used it in big bore revolvers from the 14000psi SAA Colt loads thru the 65000psi .454 Casull as well as .444 Marlin and .45-70, will say it has always delivered excellent accuracy and consistent ballistics for me. If you don’t like seeing unburned powder kernels well there does come a point near max Casull loads it gets really clean

My go to powder for the 45-90 and 50-90. Low standard deviations and excellent accuracy.

I must have bought the AA5744 for light and midrange loads in the 500 S&W mag.
