Hello good folks A budy of mine just bought one and so far its precision has been mediokre to say the least. We have tried Magtech 158gr, 5 round group 140mm at 80m, some of mine handloads that shoots just fine in my S&W 586, 170gr Sierra tournament master fmj, Remington 180 hp, thet shoot a little better but not much If there are some of you that have this rifle and similar problems what did you do to get it to shoot ? What expectations should we have regarding precision ? The gun is brand new, less then 200 rounds through it (could that be the problem ?) Best regards Mathias

Mathias.... break-in is not the problem,. If it is possible to do a chamber case with Cerrosafe, available from Brownells, you may have an answer. Among things which kill rifle accuracy: * abrupt LEADE (transition from chamber throat to lands) * bore waviness * oversize groove diameter * horrendous bedding

I have a 77/357 and it shoots ok but no target gun. I've read that accuracy can be tightened by shimming the two piece bolt. Google it. Mines a short range minute of black bruin carbine with an aperture rear sight and a Williams firesight front.
My gun shoots ok with 170 bullets but it's not a "match grade" rifle, just a handy carbine.

So we had us a good look at the gun yesterday and here are what we come up with:
Slugged the barrel after cleaning it first with Sweets and then JB bore paste and even if it is not the smoothest barrel i have seen there was nothing that had me worried. There was no hang ups when i pushed the slug through it, it measured 9,09 (.3578 if my converting is correct)
We did not have any Cerrosafe so we made a chamber cast using candlewax, made a mess of my kitchen flor in the process;) but it came out good enough for us to se that there is a angle there and after doing some math with the help of internet we came to the conclusion that the lead is about 7 deg. Does that sound right for what it should be ? And would it be worth it to redo the lead ?
We are now looking to shim the bolt and se if that will help Any and all thoughts are most welcome
Mathias
