In an effort to cut down on front sight glare I'm going file perpendicular grooves in the rear of a couple of my SA's.
I would appreciate any advice from someone who has actually done this as far as what LPI to use.
Thanks, Cholla

I would lean towards the finer lines myself, I had a gunsmith friend do a black powder pistol front sight years ago.
I didn’t look at the file before, but after I swear you could grate cabbage with the sight.

I'm leaning toward a 50 LPI file.

I have purchased three checkering files from the internet. These were Grobet brand files supposedly swiss made. Some came swiss made but at least one was made in Italy. They were offered from 00 to 6 cut. 00 being the roughest and 6 the finest. When cutting on gun parts I decided 00 or 0 were much easier to use than the fine cut. They were also offered in 20,30,40,and 50 lines per inch checkering patterns. I would try the thirty lines per inch for front sight first. Do your practice on scrap metal before you decide. You may need to purchase more than one checkering file before you get what you want. If you have more than one gun to do they will soon pay for their cost. Good luck.

If your sight is removeable, have it media blasted and matte black cerakoted, or touch up blued, or matte blackr rattle can.

I generally do 75 LPI on front sights and no coarser than 40.

I use 50 LPI for my sights. I have gone as coarse as 30 LPI but 50 to me is best.

There you go. You like 50LPI and Fermin likes 50LPI. I'd say go with 50 .
