Me and my hunting buddy finally made it our west (midwest) for a prairie dog trip. Both of us primarily use rifles but also took a couple handguns. I took my GP 100 and 100rds of 358429 (Mihec) HPs load with some HS-6. I also took my Ruger FT 44spl with 100rds of 503 H&G (Mihec) cloan mold with penta HPs. Cant remember the powder I used, either HS/6 or H110. Anyway, I finally had a pdog pop up out of it hole real close to me so I reached for my GP and took a shot. Unfortunately Indidnt get to see any action for the recoil. My buddy actually told me dont shoot again because I hit it. I didnt know I hit it, lol It turned out to be a 42yd shot. I was pretty pleased! Unfortunately I dont know how to post pictures.

sounds like you had a fun hunt. I too enjoy helping local ranchers thin the prairie dogs with my six guns!

a buddy & I went to South Dakota many years ago now... we had 22 LR's, 22 rimfire magnums, as well as the normal P Doggie rifle calibers... I also had a 10" 22 Hornet Contender, and a 14" - 7-30 Waters Contender... both scoped... we started out with the rim fires at the closer ranges, & as those thinned out, worked our way to the bigger / louder guns... it was literally a "blast"... I actually shot a badger at close to 300 yards, with my 7-30 waters Contender...
have to admit though... the most fun was had with an old 223 AR I had built ( back then flat tops were uncommon ) I had a flat top, match 20" barrel, with a compensator instead of a flash hider... with the compensator, & the 20X scope, I could witness my hits with that rifle... it's what we used, when we were shooting the furthest ( for us that time, was between 400-500 yards )... at those longer distances I'd often let my buddy try 3-4 shots with his bolt action 223, with the 3 X 9 scope, & when he was empty, I'd blast the dog with my AR with the better 20 X scope...
