I don't need one or have a real use for a .327 Federal magnum but I want one. The question is which one do I want. It will basically be a woods gun just to tote around and a plinker. I will probably try some of the Buffalo Bore 130 gr cast bullet loads to shoot a deer and pigs. I know I don't want a barrel over 5 1/2" for ease of carrying. I have it narrowed down to either the Lipsey's lightweight blued w/4 5/8" barrel, a stainless 4 5/8" barrel and finally the Bisley blued 5 1/2" barrel. Any suggestions from the peanut gallery?

I voted other. I have the 4.6" Stainless gun and it is a fine firearm, from a rest it is highly accurate but off hand I weave like an outhouse door in a hurricane and have a pattern rather than a group. The Single Six 22/22mag with 5.5" bbl in blue shoots better for me offhand because of the balance. I must admit I do not like stainless guns. The Single 7 with the Herretts grips weighs 34.8 oz and the 22 with 5.5" bbl weighs 33.9 oz but it is nose heavy because of the aluminum grip frame. I shoot nose heavy guns better. Trying to swap grip frames will not be any better because I think 5.5" is my preferred length, all my other handguns are 5.5" and nose heavy. I had a Single 10,SS with 5.5" bbl did not like it. The gun that I want would be a Single 7, 5.5" bbl with the ALUMINUM frame in blue. Hey Ruger are you listening. I do not like the Bisley. I can not shoot 2 handed in case you want to suggest that.

I have a S7 with a 4 5/8” barrel. It is a good gun now that I have all the issues straightened out. I bought it for the same purpose you describe. I also have a S6 .32hrm bisley with a 6 1/2” barrel, and it is my favorite .32. Future plans include a GP100 in .327 with the half lug barrel and roper style grips, and the S7 bisley with the 5 1/2” barrel. It doesn’t really matter which one you start with, because you will end up with many more. Don’t forget the 2 dogs front sights. Buy them by the dozen because you will want one on all of them.

327,,, yes you NEED one,,,, every body does. All of the above (after a little tune up like ALL rugers )will shoot well with varying degrees of ease of carry. BUT!!! If you stress the plinking , pack-ability and forget your carrying it thing I suggest you open up the search and include the 4 1/4 inch SP-101. A little harder to find but worth it. The GP-100 is also a fine gun but you will know it's hanging on your belt. Size of GP and SP in 3 and 4 inch.

I’m still learning this FA 97 that has a few bells and whistles. I don’t carry it. It’s had around 1000 rounds through it. I will say that the muzzle blast is a thing of wonder and I wouldn’t dare fire it without ear protection. Pretty, but pretty is as pretty does, and I’m slow to cozy up to something new. My first 327 and still not won over.

I have also found that soft HP from GT bullets an a dose of unique out of a 5.5 inch bbl gives me 1100 fps for small game and is a hoot to shoot as well just plinking. I have a GP 100 in .327 and all it gets is 32 H&R mag loads. My 2 cents

I have the 4.2" sp101. Nice gun.
For a single action, i've been holding off for a 5.5" Single 7 bisley in stainless.
That is a fine looking 97 though.

I have a GP 100 in .327 and all it gets is 32 H&R mag loads. My 2 cents I think you’re right. There’s something about the idea of a hot rod .32 cal that appeals to me, but I think it’s way light for deer, way overbore for small game and any hope I ever had to shoot a coyote with an open-sighted revolver disappeared over the horizon 10 years back. As usual, I got excited and ended up with 1500 100gr XTP ‘s and 600 cases. I loaded em up with 12gr of 2400 which should be somewhere around 1350fps (I still haven’t shot em over a chronograph). It’s an accurate load, it’s just loud and not all that fun shooting paper or knocking down steel. I’m starting to think it’s wasteful. I used to to shoot a bunch of 32-20 and I still have half a big box of Ranier (or something) SWC’s. As soon as I get enough empty cases to make the effort worthwhile I’ll do some research and download to something around or under 1000fps and see if I can find a nice, quiet, well-behaved load that’s fun to shoot, and that won’t punch out my ear drums if I have to take a quick potshot at an armadillo or something off the back of the 4-wheeler. (They are starting to show up around here-mid TN-and I’d just as soon they didn’t take root.)

peanut gallery? That's me!
I don't like Al parts due to finish color difference (vanity?). I systematically change all my EJRH's to steel. Never bought an Al gripframe. Personal.
birdshead should be lighter, right? I chose other because I like birdshead grips for bumming around. There's a birdshead 327. If I bought a single action 327 tomorrow, that is by far what I would get.
If that's off the table, my second choice would be blued steel in whatever you like. I like being able to re-finish a blued gun (because I like a more handsome rust-blue), and there's always the option of CCH if I wanted to spend the $350.
I have no dog in the plow vs bisley hunt. Nor do I distinguish between any barrel length under 6". I've already shown to myself I can shoot as far as I feel is appropriate for a given target type for any barrel length between 3.5 and 6, so for me if I need more I can go to 7.5" or 10". But under that? I don't much care. Though I do tend to push a partridge blade as far forward as I can on any shorter barrel revolver....

Some great pictures here, but with hardscrabble’s M97 posted, I’m having trouble seeing any others. Very very nice piece.
