This is described as an 8 shot 38 super on a blackhawk frame ... obviously ported, used for steel challenge. Anybody know who makes such an animal? Not sure its my cup of tea, but that's definitely an interesting set up.

I’m undecided on the porting, but change the optic (unless there’s a good reason to stick with the big Burris) and grip panels and it would be right in my wheel house.

I’ve often wondered about short cylinder single actions...
Not sure that weaver 301 mount would hold up to much real competition.

Egads! Obviously not made for looks but that doesn't make it any less disturbing to me.

So i guess the cylinder bushing is left full length and intact?

I recall that gun from the late nineties or early 2000’s as I recall it was an exercise in ultimate cowboy gaming. Using the rules that were in place at the time.
Don’t recall who made it though.

The picture can't be that old ^, with the Double Alpha Race Master.

Isn't the 38 Super case longer than that cylinder? Maybe a 38 Short Colt or 9x19?

That looks to be about 60% the length of a standard blackhawk cylinder which is like 1.65", so lets say the one in the picture is smack at 1". Manuals take the 38 super down 1.080. so let's say the cylinder was cut to 1.100 - perhaps he's loading 115gr flat points.
Or whoever tagged the photo got the caliber wrong, but I pulled it from a steel challenge site so I'd like to think they were savvy enough to know. I'd like to know how they squeezed 8 in there. If it had said 32 acp, on a blackhawk frame vs a single six frame, then that picture would make more sense to me.

I have thought about 38 super in an OM BH but not and I mean not anything like that thing. I hate porting on any gun. The short cylinder, while may have some advantage with short rounds just doesn't do it for me. I tried to hunt with an Ultradot red dot sight when I started hand gun hunting couldn't stand it, to dark in the woods or low light all I could see is dot color no deer or anything behind it, but they were there, lol.

While no part of that gun can be called pretty, those grips are actually hideous. To each their own I suppose.
