So 1st off, I won't even own a 50 BMG, as I don't have a "safe" place to shoot it... but after seeing the movie "Rampage" last night, ( needing a much bigger gun ) & doing a little digging for the Wildcat 50 thread... I came across guns, ammo, & brass cases for the 20mm... the primer looks way too small for the cases... www.diamondkbrass.com/20mm_5_ct.htmlI saw a listing of reloaded ammo, & it says "percussion" primed... is that something different than a Magnum large Rifle Primer... or a 50 Browning primer, & they just look tiny on the 20mm casehead??? if they are using "regular primers" are these duplex loads, using a faster powder to light a slow powder to push that huge bullet down a long barrel... again this is all hypothetical since I won't even own a 50 Browning... so just curious about the rocket science behind loading these big cartridges...

I'm vague on details but percussion primers are using traditional type primers ignited by a mechanical strike. Modern 20mm ( Vulcan type Gatlings, etc) use electrically ignited primers. I've heard you can use 50 BMG primers in 20 mm with a bushing adaptor.

SSK, built a round on the 20mm case years ago, so the primer issue has definitely been solved.

Back in the days of B 36 aircraft we used to find 20mm linked inert rounds in our cowling carts the gun guys would just throw in there. cause they did n't want to dispose of them, most would have 1 or 2 rounds planned off with the chargers The most often find would be 3 or 4 rounds. There were never any rounds which were other than inert. They appeared to be loaded with 4831. Have a nice day DON K

If you're thinking of a rifle from Anzio Iron Works, by chance, please PM me. I have some first-hand knowledge I can impart, that I prefer not to post openly, being based on a sample size of one.
