Hey, I've got one of those -- wish S&W would put that front sight base on all their revolvers and offer different height/style blades. So far, mine's been a bit of a disappointment. To be fair I really haven't worked with it that much. Paul

Paul is that a 629-5 classic DX?

It's a 629-6 Classic DX.
I took the STS off and re installed the factory rear, but haven't had it out since. I thought the red dot or mount might not be right and didn't allow it to perform up to DX standards. Eventually, we'll find out but I keep getting side tracked.

Oh wow, I had no idea they made a classic DX that late. I've been looking for a dash 4 classic or DX for a long time now.

Stan, that sure looks like its gonna be a fine one.
I like the Classic Smiths. Have a Classic 25 6" and Heritage CCH 24. Sure you'll enjoy yours and hope you give us a range report.

Love the Classic series, nice barrel length and new style grips.

I'll pull this red ramp sight off my 629 ASAP... The red ramp for these old eyes looks good in the display case but is literally impossible to see when shooting. As luck would have there are replacements in the parts box. Got a base for a red dot with the gun that may go on it pretty quick. I've got a work buddy that I plan to put in a tree stand with it this fall..

I have a 629 Classic (not a DX). I'll have to pull it out of the safe to which dash number it is, but it's old enough to have forged parts and a hammer mounted firing pin. I've used it to kill a few hogs, and this cow elk. The gun is a keeper.

Axe, does your gun have the DX front sight base? I thought it was just pinned in but didn't look close and it had a FastFire on it at the time anyway. If so that's a nice little upgrade! I have a couple Blackhawks with that base and while the Bowen version isn't pretty, it is a great base. The S&W looks much better.

Not sure what to call it but it is the same front sight mounting as my 625s. Just grab the blade, slide it to the rear and pull it out
