I've got what is hopefully a very quick, simple question. Will the old Victory grips, or even Victory reproduction grips fit a modern K-frame model 19? I would like a "Service-style" set of grips on my 19-3, but no one seems to be making them. Victory grips seem to be my only course, if they will fit.

I don't currently own any Victorys and I've never had one with proper grips . But the last few Victorys I have had had later model Magna grips on them . I can't think of any reason it would not work the other way around. I appreciate the feel of service grips also but had to resort to Ho-Maid to some get plump enough for my model 64. These are of course round butt and I'm assuming you need square.

Yes, I am hunting service square butt grips. I do not possess the talent to make a home-made pair. I currently have a pair of magna grips for my K-frame model 19, but I do not care for the thumb web grip, which is why I'm after the service grips.

May be out of step here. but memory says the Victory Model was an M&P K-frame .38 Special made during World War Two to fill the Allied, primarily American, handgun gap. Standing beside Smith & Wesson’s great gunsmith Al Plaas as he worked on one of my Model 29’s, Plaas said that, to speed production, and to keep the revolver working in filth with minimum maintenance, the factory slacked tolerances on the Victory. “You don’t need a Victory,” said Plaas. “The accuracy isn’t there.” Some years earlier, while in high school, an old World War One veteran showed me his bedroom gun, a Smith & Wesson .38 Special he kept after the war. dull finish. For years I thought it a Victory Model. The Victory continued a brushed, dull blue finish of about 570,000 sixguns made for the British war effort in .38 S&W, and shooting a 200 grain bullet. S&W made the M&P Victory Model .38 Special, according to Al Plaas, to the tune of 700,000 pieces. Parkerizing replaced brushed blue around 1942. Victories have a lanyard ring and smooth walnut grips. According to S&W historian Roy Jinks, the Victory was made with 2” and 4” barrel.
A current S&W .22LR auto pistol wears the “Victory” appellation. No resemblance whatever to the war revolver. David Bradshaw

I'd guess the Victory's would work. They're both square butt K frames. Couldn't say for sure though. For whatever it's worth, it looks like Numrich is mostly out of stock on service grips (versus target or pachmayr) but they do have these used: www.gunpartscorp.com/products/1628470If you do go this route, I'd ask for a hand pick on the grips to get the best quality you can.

I've got a pair of used standard K frame grips I just pulled off a model 65 when I gave the ol girl some curves. They are alittle worn from coming off a duty gun but free for the asking.

I try them carefully so if they don't fit you don't mess up the holes for the locater pins?
Someone said the Victory's aren't accurate? I've shot one that is very accurate, I'd stay away from +P loads in deference to their 1940s age, but the one I shot was very accurate. Historic too!

Your question got me wondering, so I tried grips off two M&P's, one from 1920's and one from 1930. Both are the service stocks and both are serial numbered to the gun. The grips went on my 19-2 just fine. The fit was not perfect as the service style stocks were individually fitted to each gun. They would work however. Not Victory model grips, but the same thing with checkering and emblems added.
