The Freedom Arms 97 with the auxiliary 45 acp cylinder should be a top competitor.
Hard to imagine a better made gun.

It's been said before, I'd go with the Ruger Black Hawk convertible & not look back.

Saying it again. Ruger convertible and be happy with the strength and accuracy.

I have given thought to a 45 ACP on an OM midframe flattop... My next gun will be a Horvath 45 acp on a om 357 flattop with a S&W barrel. Currently I'm waiting on a Horvath USFA flattop target to get back from the engravers. Right now my most used gun is a full sized stainless bisley with the ACP cylinder with some light Linebaugh touches. Having an old old Dillon 1050 set up in 45 acp makes that cartridge the obvious answer most of the time, no matter what the question is!

What about a short cylinder like a Smith 325 or 625?

I am with Mister Bradshaw. I love my Birdshead Vaquero in .45 ACP. I'd like to send it out for an adjustable rear sight and case coloring of the frame, some custom grips...
Its a sweetheart of a revolver though just as it is.

I also like .45ACP in a revolver. A S & W revolver actually. Having said that I also am a fan of .45 Auto Rim. Been thinking of building a 4in. single action on a OM .357 Blackhawk. I can load AR to 950fps pretty easy. Just my .2 cents....

Interesting idea Curtis, a short cyl single action might have a pretty unique look. You better build one so we can all see, maby you will start something here.

David I think that is some pretty solid advice, I just love to be slightly different than others, but my bet is your 5.5 grain load would work as well, I know in mine it makes for some sweet recoil free shooting, thats at 25 yards rested, it definitely shoots better than I do, and as sixshot said,, it's one heck of a game load, even up to deer sized game at reasonable range. I'll stick with Bisley, but that birds head smaller frame sounds sweet,, you guy's sure know how to try and influence the weak!

Ruger New Vaquero in .357 with S&W rear sight and a gold bead front sight would be the basic and then add frills from their. David Clements maybe?
