The Freedom replaced the VX I & II. NOS VX's have all but dried up. I've snagged a few here & there, worth looking for IMO. The A.O. 4-12's parallax adj. went down to 25 yds. Couple that with a fine duplex & it's a great rim fire scope. I have no problem, BTW, of buying a used Leupold.
A couple different versions of the Sweet 17 & 22's, a 50-$60 one & a side focus for about $150. No more rubber that I know of. I have the current cheap version 17 & have dialed hundreds of solutions to 300 yards & beyond. It's OK so far. Crosshair is borderline thick. I also have the current cheap version Sweet 22, it's crosshair is unacceptable, & is going on the shelf I think.
A scope of merit that's suitable for rimfire is the Weaver Classic V-series 4-16. I put one of those on a CZ, for the reason that it had a fine crosshair & parallax adj. down to 10 or 15 yds, & capped mini target turrets. 10 years old & going strong.
So many scope choices these days, & finding good rimfire suitable ones is tricky.

... factory 22 LR case necked down to 17 caliber ... Since this was stated more than once, if we are going to educate folks let's do it with correct specifications- it matters. The 17 HM2 is a necked down .22 stinger, not LR. The brass is longer in the Stinger about .71" versus .595". Splitting hairs? Maybe. But details matter.
