I recently picked up a Bowen V notch rear sight. I'm undecided on whether to put it on a GP100 or one of my single actions. Could I pair the V notch with one of those Hi Viz or Marbles fiber optic front sights, or is it meant more for one of those XS dot sights?

Polar opposite the acuity of a target sight. As the fiber optic front “bead” grabs your eye, it may work with the V-leaf rear. If trying on your GP-100 is more convenient, start there. Ruger missed the boat with their express sights for the Redhawk, as the gold bead front is too small. If you must fight for a sight picture, it is not a true EXPRESS SIGHT. Think of the name: express. This is a case of try the fiber optic; you may like it. David Bradshaw

This is the setup I chose. Fiber optic pops like no other and I've always seen green sights best.

Thanks for the guidance gents. I like the way that sight pops and the dot size seems ok for use with the rear sight. What brand is that front sight?

I really like the shallow v rear with an xs big dot up front, nothing faster on target for me up close. At get off me ranges you put the big dot on center mass and work the trigger. At distance a 6 o'clock hold on top of the dot is suprisingly accurate. I'll dig for a picture of the sight picture on my 396.

My mark iv hunter came with a v-notch rear and a fiber optic front. Worked ok, but not as good as the red dot it now wears.

The V notch & fiber optic front is a good set up in some applications, others not so good. They are very fast yes, but you won't see them in competition, you will see a fiber optic on almost every USPSA gun but not with the rear V, it will be a blade type in the rear almost 100%. For hunting I think some people use them for close work but they aren't the best for fine accuracy, here again the rear blade seems to be much more popular. A gold bead is used by some but I've never personally liked them because they can fade into the hide on animals if you are hunting. For target work perhaps they are fine, just my opinion. I have one but it didn't stay on very long.
