Move my son to Decorah IA. And was wondering what the hunting climate and methods was? Saw pheasants and Deer!

I'm in southern MN, so there may be better to answer... you can easily add turkey, & ducks to the hunt list... not positive, but deer might be slug only ( it is in southern MN ) so shotgun may be your most used hunting firearm... & there are some big white tails in northern IA

Clayton and Chickasaw counties have some of the biggest and most abundant deer here in Iowa. Decorah is a good area for deer. I’m sure there are plenty of coyotes around too

I used to fish the stocked trout streams around there and Waukon, Highlandville and others. Grouse hunted once, missed the only shot offered, no surprise there. Woodcock most certainly pass through the area, I don't remember seeing quail but there were always pheasant to be seen in the spring.
Iowa was shotgun only for deer, plus muzzleloader, but recently added straight walled cartridges.
