I have owned an SP 38/357 since 1991. I currently have two. A 3" 357 and a 2.25" WC Model. Over the years I have owned and used the following grips: Secret Service grips from Eagle, Boot grips from Badger, Hogue and two different types of Pachmayrs; compac and the renegade version and a set from Jaruwan. I've also tried to live with the OEM rubber/ wood panels. For various reasons none have been completely satisfactory for the 2.25" gun..
I have the Hogues on the 3" and it's a marriage made in Heaven. Don't like them on the WC 2.25 as they are too long.
Could never find any Butler Creek grips for the SP. Looking for wood panels for the rubberSP OEM grip that are wider, thicker and or fatter than the originals as the originals are great for length but the girth is too narrow for firm hold on the weapon for fast DA shooting of 357s. Guess I need to do my own research to see what aftermarket vendors are pushing and that could answer the problem.
The thing I like about the Hogues are the stirrup securing device for the grip as it is snug and doesn't move all the aftermarket grips I've had to shim or remove material for a decent hold during 357 recoil.
Any ideas? I've tried shimming the grip stud, and filling the gaps in the grips like Badger, Eagle and Jaruwan. Need some noodling from you guys?

Getting a good grip on a SP-101 has been a challenge for me since they came out. On the short guns I can get by with stock grips as long as there is a little more traction on the insets. The longer barrel guns get a little more room for pinkie purchase. The wood Hogue seems to have a little more width than the rubber version but still long. In the center is the newer Pachmayr grip and it does fine but a little blocky. But my all time favorite is the Trausch grip on the end. Sadly out of business and no longer available but out there if you keep your eyes open.

Seems like you've tried most of the grips out there. The only ones I see missing are a set of the "Traush" (spelling) grips. Some folks really seem to like those.

Wow, needsmostuff, nice collection of SPs. Contender you're right the only ones I know that I haven't tried are the old Butler Creeks and the Trausch. The Pachmayr Renegade both composite and rubber each have their issues. I have decided to put the Diamond Pros on the 3" and put the Hogues on the WC model. I faithfully carry the WC model as a PDW and it works very well in that capacity.
Anyone tried the "Chig's Grips" inserts and how thick the inserts are on average? The stock ones on my sets are .23 inches, something a bit thicker would help, and a surface that promotes traction.
Many of the grips I have tried are "grippy" enough but all of them except the Hogue and the Ruger OEM wiggle on the grip stud. With and without duct tape acting as shimming material.

Went back to the Pachmayr Compacs and they fit ok and some more shimming with Duct Tape and the wiggle at the rear top of the grip is gone. One of these days Hogue wood, checkered!

the majority of my customers seem to prefer the thicker inserts for the sp101 and gp100. several have said it's almost like having palm swell grips.
I just got in a large batch of really nice Sambar stag and was actually planning on making a few sets for the sp101 late next week. if you're interested I can send you some pics when they're finished.

Zane: What is the average thickness of your inserts? My OEM panels are averaging .22-23 inches. Something around .5o-.60 would be great. Interested in your Stag insert production. I will PM you with my personal email address. Thanks for reading and responding.
