Well I had come close to getting a 480 Ruger for years. Finally gave in last week. When Ruger came out with the 4 5/8 in the Bisley It was just a matter of time. Plus my 454 6 1/2 needed a sister to keep her company. I need another caliber to reload like I need a hole in my head. But, the 480 really intrigued me. I like big heavy bullets moving fairly slow.
First outing was this weekend. Fun gun to shoot. Only able to shoot the factory Hornady stuff as that's all I could get last minute. Look forward to reloading it. Missouri 340's and Hornady xtp's on the way with a set of dies. Will probably cast for it in the future as well.

When Ruger came out with the Super Redhawk in the 480,,, I didn't see a need or desire. Then a friend wanted one, & I helped him find one,,, with the caveat that I get first dibs if & when he decided to sell. (I knew him well enough that he wouldn't keep it, and I knew I'd get a deal.) Sure enough,,, after 2 years, he called me & I got a very good deal on the Super Redhawk, & some extras. Boy was I surprised at this gun. Comfortable to shoot, accurate, even at longer ranges, and downright fun. Well,,, now there are 3 of them in my stable. Two Super Redhawks,, (both bbl lengths) and the first Super Blackhawk Bisley in it. LOVE them!

I like mine... I have the long barrel ( bought too soon, as I'd really prefer the 4+ inch barrel )... but figured since my other is an Alaskan the 6+ inch was a better fit??? & nice hunting length though the snubbie works equally well

I've the Bisley in both lengths. I've been using the Missouri Bullet 340gr for light or play loads too. On a full charge of Trail Boss it is fun, you still know it is a "big bore". Think 44spec with another 100grs of bullet. That can't be bad, can it ? With a heavier or tougher bullet, and slower powders, anything can be on the menu. The big case means a wider range of projectiles can be used.

With a good 480, it’s really hard to justify a 475 Linebaugh. The Ruger is a bargain. The ammo is reasonably priced and the reloader has so many choices. Mild to wild, Trailboss to H110, 325gr to 440s. It makes perfect sense.

That Alaskan is the one I have been fighting off for years. I have a weak spot for short barreled revolvers. Supplies come in wed. Come on FedEx.

Minnesota possums can be a real handful

go ahead and make fun all you like... doggie was fighting it, out of a hole... as big as it was... I thought it was actually a badger at 1st... & beside it was my 1st chance to draw blood with this revolver... ... & it was a one shot kill...

Hey, you do not have to explain to me. I am the guy who has numerous snapping turtle kills with a Browning 1886 45-70 using Garrett 420 grain hammerheads. They hit the tank like a stick of dynamite. You can add 45-70 Hammerheads to the "close counts" list when you are hunting turtles. I completely understand using a 480 Alaskan on a big possum.

I'd feel dumb clicking a "like" to your post, when you're complaining... We should have a "I'm sorry" clicky... 480 is actually fun to load... everything is so big... beats the heck out of loading 25 ACP... but the ACP is a fun round in a revolver, but not like the 480

I did just look at tracking and the dies got moved up to tomorrow instead of Saturday. Fedex is passing it off to USPS though so its anyone's bet.

I love mine! Had the 6.5” but sold it and got the 4 5/8” barreled model. I have been using the Lee 400 gr LBT style bullet at around 900 FPS and it is comfortable to shoot and scary accurate. It does a number on deer and hogs too
