Its an 1886 made in 1918. It is beautiful. The metal has been refinished at some point but they did a real good job.

Very much old school cool!!!.............Iām taking my 1940ās mod71 out today while walking the ranch looking for piggies. That 33wcf. Is a nice easy shooting caliber, and the 86 is a great gun.

Another one of my late dads favorites, the '86 in .33 Win. I had one for a while too some years ago. Neat rifle and round.

Mine was made in 1910. Hawk makes bullets for it, Hornady dropped production on their excellent 338 FN several years ago. Never tried cast in mine. Cases are made from reformed 45-70 brass. If you use Starline brass you will have to reduce the powder charge by several grains since it's heavier that Winchester brass. It's a fun cartridge an a heck of a deer killer. I've got an original Lyman tang sight on mine and from sandbags it's very accurate at 300 yards. Tom Black

Just saw on Smith and Wesson Forum in the Accessories for Sale section 3 boxes of 33 Winchester Ammo. Remington manufacture. Just thought I would let you know it's not my ad and don't know the person selling.

I have an 86 from about the same time period. Like yours it has been refinished but unlike yours, mine has been rebored. It was a 40-82 and was rebored to 45-70. It has old style Win. rifling so I'm thinking it was redone by the factory, but I don't know for sure. Bill

They are beautifully made guns...
About 8 years ago a friend asked me to take a ride to see one of these rifles that was for sale by an individual seller. All my friend knew was that it was a .33 Winchester. We met the guy in a parking lot and he pulls a 90% 1886 takedown carbine out of the case...wanted $1400 for it. My friend did some negotiating and the guy ended up selling him the gun and some original ammo for the asking price. Friend kept the gun for a few years and sold it for about $2400..never did hunt with it as planned...

I'll try to get some pics posted. Converted some starline 40-65 brass. Most of them made it through the process. I loaded them with Hornadys 200 grain flextips.

One of my dream guns is an 1886 takedown converted to 50 Alaskan. Still trying to find the right donor gun. Just can't cut up a really nice one, mainly because they cost so much!
Enjoy shooting it! Tim

Tim Tim, just take a 50-110 an you have what you need...50-110 loaded with 435 or 450 rn are specked out at col of 2.80...use a 50 alaskan case and they speck out at 2.5 col...This is what Turnbull has me doing an I am on my 3rd gun from him...Ps the 50 alaskan at 2.50 feeds much easier than 50-110 fwiw...Frank

Any takedown '86 in the 20th century metallurgy would be fine, but seems like my chances of finding a donor priced example in 33WCF are better! Never know though. Thanks Tim
