No offence meant to anyone just seeking info but.Why would a smith build a custom revolver and not have the cylinder latch drop into the cut made for it so it doesn't leave a mark around the cylinder? Seems like that would be part of the custom treatment. I’m trying to decipher your post so scuse’ me if I’m guessing incorrectly. On a properly tuned New Model the “cylinder latch” does leave a drag line on the cylinder. It’s the Old Models that should not have that line. Hope this helps.

Why should a new model leave a drag line? They can be fixed to not leave a drag line.Seems a shame to spend all that money on a custom and have it ruin the blue job so quickly.

I’m curious... How do you fix a NM Ruger to not leave a drag line?

I asked Hamilton about the modification to eliminate the drag line on a New Model - lengthening the plunger so it pushes the watchamacallit down from the cylinder a little quicker. He explained in detail why he didn't do it. As I can't even recall the proper name of the watchamacallit, you'll have to excuse me for forgetting the reason he gave. It made good sense to me at the time though. Sorry I can't shed more light on it.
I have seen many describe the modification and it seems like it should work, but none of my customs by several different gunsmiths has been changed in that way. Must be some reason.

Sorry for the hijack but it was a serious question? I read about a mod to the top of the cylinder latch on the Ruger forum so was curious.

You have to add material to the end of the latch or build a longer hammer plunger that inserts into the hammer. I’m not sure why it is not done on new model customs. Or why Ruger doesn’t build them that way at the factory. Good question though.
