I’m loving my 44 specials, and seeing all the posts hoping for a 41 mag in the GP100 after the introduction in 44 special. Maybe the time would be right to finally make the 41 special a factory round. I’d snag a GP or Bisley or a sweet little birdshead in a heartbeat. Does anybody think it could become a reality?

IMO... anything is possible... but in "normal" circles even the 41 mag struggles ( not in crazy enthusiast forums like this ) but I'd think it's unlikely, when they are making 10mm Single actions now, & you can buy a Charter double action in 40 S&W... & for the single actions, the CASS groups seem to be thinning the last several years ( which IMO, would be the biggest commercial chance for a push for the 41 Special in a single action) so I'd think a 40 S&W stands a better chance of a standard chambering in "revolvers" than a 41 Special

Who decides? The ammo company? SAAMI? Manufacturers? Seems like factory ammo would be where it starts, gauge interest and then maybe the manufacturers chamber a midframe?

I'd bet not. There would be about 100 people who would buy one.

It’s my 338federal, a while back I was itching to build a 338-08 then before I knew it the 338 federal came along and was the darling of all the gun writers. I promptly purchased a Ruger Hawkeye and Kimber 84, now it seems to be hard to find a factory rifle chambered for it. I’m thinking if the 41 special was brought out it would suffer the same fate, the gun writers would love it but it would die out quickly and quiet like the 338 Federal.

Nobody told me it wasn't legitimate..... Starline makes brass, that's legitimate enough for me...I couldn't care less if factory ammo isn't available.

Ok, I've said it a few times before, but the Charter Arms Bulldog platform , that's kinda at it limit with the 44spec, would make a dandy 41 special. Think I'd be happy there is brass available.

All that are truly wanting this need to whisper in Jason Clousner's ear. Not sure if I got his last name correct. E-mail the CEO at Ruger and such, too. Personally, I'm not in. Luck though.

Once upon a time it was going to happen. About a year before they closed I was having a gun repaired at USFA in Hartford, Ct. They showed me one of the new Shooting Masters and one of the calibers they were bringing it out in at the request of some top CAS competitors in what they were going to call ".41 Short Magnum" IIRC... I asked right there and then could I order one and was told I could once they had the .41 barrel stock...but that never happened as they went out of business. Not to be undone...a few years later I found a .357 Shooting Master at a very good price and had David Clements turn it into a .41 Special with 5.5" barrel....
That said...last year I did happen to ask one of the Ruger VPs about the possibility of having Ruger legitimize the .41 Special and bringing out a GP100 and/or mid-frame FT...all he would say was "It is being looked at"...so maybe...
You look what Ruger has done keeping the .41 Magnum alive and now having 10mm DA and SA revolvers...so it may happen one day. Send those messages to the President...they listen...

I'd love to see an L-frame .41 Magnum, but I am not holding my breath...

The harsh reality is that if you want one you're going to have to suck it up like the rest of us... It's about the least expensive build on probably the least expensive base gun you can buy, especially in a single action.
