This Armi San Marcos caught my eye at the local gun store. Nicely made, in great condition and at a good price- what's not to like? I bought it intending to turn it into a Sherrif's Model, but this is my favorite barrel length for a SAA and it's just so nice the way it is... Nothing fancy, just a basic workhorse for carting around the woods and the like. It's funny, after monkeying around with the Walker so much this seems like such a small gun...

Those grips seem to be a cut above the ordinary!

There was some discussion on another forum regarding the safety. From the photos you posted it seems to have the "Swiss Safe" extended base pin. Early Dakotas lacked this feature.

Bob Wright Yep- when set in the rear position its (barely) keeps the firing pin from contacting the primer. Not at all a practical safety but it will keep the gun from going bang.

It is not meant to be a practical safety, it is meant to get the gun into the united States. Bob Wright

Good looker! I had a couple ASM revolvers and they were good. Only issue I had was when on the first time out with one the front sight went into orbit! I found it, called them, shipped it back for warranty repair, no charge.

One of the nicer single action revolvers I ever owned was a dual cylinder ASM, .45 Colt and .45 ACP. Shot both cartridges nicely, and was smooth right from the get go.
I have had a few early Ubertis that were clearly outmatched by it, but newer production Ubertis are much nicer these days, and surpass that old hogleg. Still, I wouldn't mind having it back, but the feller I sold it to has the sad ability to totally ruin every gun he gets his hands on. Crying shame....

Congratulations on acquiring a beautiful piece! I love those Italian replicas. Yours is a beauty. I really like the dark case color hardening. Nice grips, too.
