This just landed today, near NIB with wood box, papers, tools and keys, (for the box!) Wanted one of these since they came out years ago, but always out of reach, till now. Snagged it off GB last week after a bit of a bid war with another chap who was only one bid away from winning this beautiful revolver. Hope he doesn't read that! These being only 800 in number usually go for near 2K, I got this for somewhat less. Still a bit of change but oh well! For those not familiar, its the Georgia State Patrol Comm. model 26-1, .45 Colt, 5" tapered bbl. Has a lanyard ring on the butt, that will likely come off when I figure out how to get it off, so I can put some larger more shooter friendly grips on, not rubbers! Oh and yes, the barrel has gone plum.

I really like the looks of the tapered 5" barrel on those guns!

I got that lanyard doo hickey punched out and other grips on. I just find the magna stocks too small. It looks just like my 5" pre 27. Hope to shoot it soon.

With the prices Smith's are going for these days I did pretty well. I paid just a tad more for this than for the 625-5 in the other thread and I saw a 25-7 go on GB today for $1800 which is what these 26-1's usually go for! I fully expected to be outbid on this one, and in fact was only one bid from losing it.

Nolomgcolt, if you have no plans for that lanyard doohickey I’d like to have it, let me know what you want for it, if it’s still in decent shape.

I plan to keep it with the gun in the wood box etc. I tend to rotate my stock regularly so if I go to sell this at some point it would not be good if the thing was gone. BTW, I shot it today and it shot very well and worked perfectly so pretty pleased with it.

This Smith shoots about as good as the 625 does so far. Enjoying it. Got some Altamont "coke" style grips for it, that look about the same as the factory targets, but are just enough different in shape and feel that they fit my hand better.
